Hi,

I am moving to a house that is prewired for cable TV. I currently have Direct TV that I wired directly to the receiver by drilling through the wall form the outside. Since this cable was buried and the dish is on a pole at the the end of the garden, it looked OK. The question I have is can I use a diplexer with the cable in the new house (pretty certain it is RG56) to deliver the satellite signal? If not, can I use RG6 from the dish to the house (~50feet) then amplify the signal, such that any losses in the RG56 could be minimized?

just don't want to run lots of cable in a newish house that is prewired!

Thanks

It all depends on how it was prewired. Each case is different depending on the quality of the installation and the materials used (at the very least, every run must be home-run. without any splitters in the line)

If it's been done within the past 10yrs, chances are it's gonna be OK (btw, Nothing wrong with RG59 for satellite if it's done right)

Even if it were Monster-Cable-RG6-Directional-Quad and the jerk electrician hammered it down with romex staples, it's going to be NG for satelite (but may carry cable OK)

The only way to know is - TRY IT ;)
