Uhm...- I don't know if this is the right place to post this- I thought under the radio section would be better but that didn't look right either- anyway- I saw a band the other night in Los Angeles and liked them enough to buy the CD- Their single "Shamu Suicide" is free on their website www.sputnikmonroe.com They have an amazing fresh funky sound- Just thought people who are tired of the usual drivel might want to check it out-

Hey there- I realize I'm posting a second reply to my own post and maybe that's not correct etiquette BUT I just wanted to say that I have posted to many sites in the last two days because I've never been brave enough to do so before now, and I'm looking for some cool sites that maybe share my interest in music (and like the same kind of music) but even if they don't I can drop in from time to time and chat (or not) and this site is the only site that replied to me and was way cool. In two days I've been yelled at, scolded and (gasp) banned! Basically, with the anonymity of the internet, I think people feel like they can say rude things since they aren't saying it to my face....I really did originally post because I really like the band I mentioned and I really thought maybe other people would too (and since they aren't on the radio how else would anyone know about them?) and if not, that was cool too! -and being a newbie I thought I'd post and try to "find my people" as it were- anyway-having now been out in cyberspace for a whopping two days and getting my butt chewed repeatedly I can honestly say "thank you" for being cool to a newbie! It really is appreciated! -I'm going to go lick my wounds now....

Well first of all, thanks for the kind words, and secondly, I'm sorry to hear you were treated badly at some other sites. But I tell you what, in your two days, you found the polar extremes that are the internet ;) As for me, I'm certainly not going to bash you simply for existing. Most here won't; we're a pretty diverse group. (Also you did try putting it in the right forum, which tells me that you care about the impression you leave.) I thank you for that. We shouldn't have to speak to someone's face to be respectful, but I do know what you're saying. The anonymity of the 'net gives people the same kind of feeling as they get while driving: Theydo and say things to and about people they wouldn't if they were face to face. Sad but true nonetheless.

The only thing I can say, you already know: Don't go to sites where you're treated badly! :)

Thank you! I will certainly be back and participate on this site. And I'll check out your suggested forum as well - so nice of you to offer it and include me! I think you're right that I encountered the two extremes and it is like driving (being from Los Angeles you'd think I'd be accustomed to Road Rage!)! I'm trying not to be too critical of the guy that really burned me because sometimes I get irritated too- but I think (as in all things) this is a good opportunity to discover just exactly what kind of a person you really are- and after 24 hours of thought, I realize (refering to the people who said mean things) that their words and actions only reflect poorly on them! As well as this site's (refering to the site but you two in particular) words and actions only reflect extremely well on you!!! Thank you! And I did reply to "the jerk" who was so horrible- but I replied in a really respectful, thoughtful way (I started with Dear Mr. and ended by thanking him for his thoughts-) and I think this reflects well on me- so I'll stop allowing him to make me feel like I kicked his favorite dog, take a deep breath, and try participating in some forums (like this one!) Thanks, again!!!

Victory is mine! Thank you for your support! Four or Five lengthy emails later the school yard bully has "unbanned" me from his site and invited me to visit! Before he unbanned me I told him I wouldn't go to his site even if I was unbanned because 1) as you guys pointed out, why go where I'm not wanted? 2) I'm not an idiot and meeting a bully on his own turf when he's had 48 hours to post tons of negative replies (which he says he did and I didn't respond to his posts-I pointed out I couldn't since I was banned) would be tantamount to a suicide run for me and who needs the abuse? and 3) I had found two places that I really liked and was interested in being a part of- here and the forum XMyth suggested (but don't worry I didn't tell him where!! Who needs his bad vibes polluting these sites?) - so basically I thanked him for chilling out, expalined that for me to go to his site now would only be because I was trying to prove my point or "prove him wrong" and I'm not that kind of person and I'd rather spend my time elsewhere- But to be honest I was thinking about just not being a part of any forum, ever, after his first email and it's amazing that just a few kind words from you guys negated his MANY mean words- so thanks again and please know that your kindess counts!!!
Thanks!

Nice to hear that you came out on top. You're right, of course, that going there would more or less be a waste of time, if the only reason would be to refute their story. As if it even matters. :D But yes, staying off there prolly best IMHO, because they could also just be spoiling for more of the same, and you don't need that either.

Good also to hear you haven't given up on the whole internet! :D Just like anything, there's good and bad in it. Just sorry you had to find the bad so quickly.

Take care! :)
