Hello everyone,
I just purchased a Sony 32" FD Trinitron HDTV, Kv-32HS420, and I'm very impressed with the picture quality through my satellite connection(DirecTV)! However, I havent bought the so called needed HD decoder in order to receive HD stations.
I have Three questions ?
1. Do I need to replace my existing satellite dish (Sony SN-18D2) in order to use with an HD reciever?
2. In the event I have to replace my dish. Can still use my old satellite receiver (Sony SAT-A4), with the HD reciever and dish?
Do I need seperate dishes to view HD and my none HD TV?
Thank you, kindly
Edmond

1. if its a round dish, you do need to replace it with an oval triple lnb dish.
2. You will need to buy a HD reciever, right now DTV has their own branded receiver on sale everywhere for around $200.
3. You do not need seperate dishes, your HD receiver will decode those channels on your HDTV, and your regular reciever will let you watch regular definition TV on your non HDTV set.

depending on where you live the triple sat oval dish will allow you to get hd. but you will not get any local hd channels on an triple sat. If I were you I would just spend the extra money and go ahead and buy the newest "slimline" hd dish they are a pain in the a.. but you will get local hd if available where you live (i don't know) and also the H20 hd reciever is the way to go with the new mp4 format. just a side note if you install the kaku slimline or the older 5 lmb dish the signal meter on the reciever will show extremely low. it will give you and error message about the 99 sat. just go past that by pressing the fix later tab. i suggest that if you don't have a satellite finder use your standard reciever to tune your dish audibly. your H20 will give you a signal on 101,119&110

although you know if you get a regular hd reciever it comes with a free dish and if it is a 3 lnb dish then you get a free local channel upgrade ) when they come available (my aunt did when the hd locals came to town)... and the regular hd system is only $99 and that comes with the dish and instalation saving you a lot of money than if you were to go get them seprately... I would replace the sony reciever... that thing is older than sin.... keep it incase you need a back up though...
