tech question: no preview channel on startup

I purchased a used Kenwood KTC-SR903 tuner. This is a discontinued model that works with my older KDC-319 radio in my car. I had it professionally installed, but it does not appear to be working correctly. It displays the message to call Sirius to activate, but does not play the preview channel through the speakers. Sirius activation tells me that they cannot activate it.

The tuner came with a single-wire magnetic antenna, but I had to purchase a new cable to connect it to the head unit. So how do I troubleshoot this? Is it more likely to be the antenna, or the tuner? Or is there just some stupid cconfiguration thing I'm overlooking?

Is the channel map downloading into the headunit? Can you see the preview channels on the display or does it act like it is not connected?

If the latter, then you problem is most likely an antenna connection or the connection from the decoder to the head unit
