Hello all:

I'm having to retype all this cause my laptop battery died right before I was done before - I'll try to remember everything I put in before!

I'm not sure if this should have gone in dtv or dish, as it straddles both. Apologies if this seems misplaced.

We have dish network setup as follows:
522 receiver with 2 inputs
500 series pro satellite - inputs on LNB (?) labelled 110 and 119

Yesterday morning I went to watch something and all recorded programs were erased. It was as if I'd plugged in the unit brand new - nothing on it. A look at dish website stated 'this is a known issue with 522 receivers'. Argh :(

Later on last night I went to watch something else and there was no signal. After an hour of troubleshooting (solo and with dish on the phone) I came to realize the receiver is toast. Boots up with only one light (tv1) instead of 2 - hangs for 30 seconds, then resets and loops again. Never ends. :(

Dish only offered to send a replacement in 5 business days, and it costs me money. My wife is gone for 2 weeks and had 30 hours of programming lined up, now she won't get any of that.

UNLESS...

We used to have dtv (and I want to go back ASAP but there are some problems). We still have the two directivo receivers, and I have a dish network sateliite dish. What can I do to make these two work together well enough to be usable? Is this something I can do myself?

I'm in the middle of nowhere, PA (well, state college, but it's hardly a booming metropolis) on a holiday weekend with a tech hardware problem. Could it get any worse? :) (obviously, yes I know it could, but right now it's still an issue!)

Any help on this? Thanks!

Hi mgkimsal,

Unfortunately, both the Dish PVR system and the Directivo are proprietary systems and so will only work on the system they were designed for.

Dependant on your dishplayers actual problem, you may be able to solve it with a simple hard drive swap. In many cases the failure you describe is caused by a blown HD. It may be cheaper to try that than purchase a whole new dishplayer. You will find the instructions on this site if you opt to go with this plan.
