My hard drive crapped out and I replaced it yesterday (WD 120GB) got it all back together and hooked up. I load to the webtv screen and calls out and starts downloading the software but disconnects. The first time it stopped a 5 of 296 and I reconnected but it didn't start downloading it just connected and didn't do anyrhing for an hour so I unplugged it and tried again. Same thing. I have done this about 50 times the most I have been able to get is 68 of 296 before the line disconnects. Is there a way to hook up the UTV to my broadband via the usb port? Can I load the software some other way? Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would surely been appreciated before I pull all of my hair out!

Yes, that problem is a known issue. It is sometimes caused by instability or noise on the phone line
Your best bet is to restore a copy of the latest software directly onto the UTV drive from your computer. We have the drive image on our members download area for both 3.7 and 3.5

So just conect the unit to my computer with USB and copy over the package? Does it matter that I am on a mac? I just did the HD swap this morning and I am having these types of DL problems and don't want to be trying to work this out for a week or worse.
This forum is great BTW, I thought I was sunk before I found it. Very empowering! Thank you! I would never have thought to upgrade my Sony UTV before finding you.
Sony wanted $180 and 4-5 weeks for the same repair. What a joke.

I just spent some quality time with technical support for UltimateTV / MSN TV / WebTV (Talk about dysfunctional...)
They gave me a sequence of numbers to input into the box using the remote.
The first was "OPTION - OPTION - OPTION - 32768"
This made all the little LEDs flash in sequence twice. They indicated this was to reset the unit.
The second sequence was "OPTION - OPTION - OPTION - 8675309"
This made all the little LEDs flash in sequence twice. They indicated this was to force the unit to upgrade. Had to laugh at the hidden musical reference (867-5309 Jennny by Tommy Tutone... can't tell me that was a coincidence).
I am able to connect... not to Web TV but via MSN. But the connection always drops, and does so pretty damn quick.
So, the UltimateTV / MSN TV / WebTV yoda has me enter "OPTION - OPTION - OPTION - 411" When I powered on, a screen of information pops up. He had me read some numbers back to him... at which point he says because my client is 2.0.6 (Version 2545) and my boot is also 2545 that the unit is - in his words - "A large paperweight."
What gives? Any ideas here?
Sounds like I may be up the creek unless I can get assistance in installing that disk image. I have access to a windows laptop, FWIW, but have no experience using them. Help!
