Dobie --
You say "but that was due to inventory". Has NPD gotten into the business
of not only providing numbers but providing explanations as to why they do
what they do? I missed that....
Dobie, being serious for a moment -- to the extent Sirius went through
January without inventory, all those hundreds of thousands of missed sales
should be being filled in late Jan and early Feb. If not, then isn't it
fair to assume that the post-Stern dropoff is real and permanent? Stern has
no way of reaching people outside of Sirius now that he's fallen off the
radar.
Frankly, Sirius should have already gone over 4M if Stern was anywhere near
what was expected. I could understand it not happening if they were stocked
out throughout part of Jan -- but those buyers ought to have been lined up
when the inventory showed up.
Will it return to 60/40 XM? Who knows. I don't; you don't. But it is
pretty clear at this point that XM's description of Stern as a "one-quarter
event" isn't far off.
