Rumors flew around that you can get a free roady XT with the purchase
of a 6 month subscription at $6.99 per month.

I took a few minutes to call XM, and can confirm that it is true. The
only requirement is that you are a current XM subscriber.

Parsons had promised an end to the $29.00 radio at the Bear Sterns
call. Not even a week after the call Circuit City had roady XT's for
$29. Now Crutchfields still has the radio for $29, and XM is giving
them away free.

Now, I am aware that some will say that the Roady XT was designed to be
given away, and that it is inexpensive to
manufacture.......BUT........There is really no excuse for giving
hardware away for only a 6 month commitment at $6.99 per month. This
will not only impact SAC, it will impact ARPU.

There is a point in time when this type of promotion makes sence. IMO
that time has not yet arrived.

It is Parsons lying again and chasing Stern. Doesn't the worse
Chairman in American Industry realize it would have been cheaper to
hire Stern?

You're nuts.

You give them something that costs $20-30 for a six month commitment, and
you think that's a BAD thing? XM and Sirius BOTH pay retailer spiffs of far
more than that amount on practically every unit sold at retail. PLUS the
other subsidies, etc.

You can't get a less expensive subscriber than this.

I can understand an ignorant-ass like Sirius_Rich making such a comment.
But I expect more from people with average intellects.

One day Frontmed you will realize that XM will need to make money and
stop chasing the content of Sirius by buying their subscribers. It is
obvious that content acquires and retains subscribers while giving away
hardware increases churn and "Slow Activations". Didn't Q4 '05 teach
you anything? "Slow Activations", LOL. Parsons said he learned a
lesson and begged Wall Street for forgiveness. Wall Street has aleady
smitten XM for Q4 executive managerial mistakes and a director has
resigned from the BOD. What do you think Wall Street will do if SAC
does not improve in Q1 dramatically? What is XM going to do to improve
this quarter, give away LESS radios? What about those "Slow
Activations"? Isn't that percentage of Family Plan subscribers getting
exetremely high? XM had better raise the price of a Family Plan sub
pretty soon to help pay for the capex this year.

Didn't I say about 1 1/2 years ago that the radios would be given away
for free just like cell phones?

Now if any radio made picked up the signal it would be differant...

But seesh XM has content... it all matters what YOU call content. I
dont call howie content. I don't listen to football, I watch
football... I watch the final minutes of "march madness" games.. No
one listens to these games, unless you like Georgetown..

Now move along.. call a cab and get a beer.

I can't believe Delphi's receivers let the company give these things
away at cost.

howie and radio
