I have one of those old Hughes receivers (about 8 years old) and I am starting to lose channels. I lost one local channel, and one of the discovery channels. i was wondering if since the receiver is old, maybe the receiver cannot update itself properly with the datastream, thus losing a channel here, a channel there. I was wondering if someone else had this problem with old receivers. Should I reset the receiver (unplug it) or something else, or maybe it's time to purchase a new one. Thanks in advance.

I have a couple old original Sony receivers that I've had since '97 and they used to be the quickest receivers out, instant commands. Now they're slow to pull up guides and can bearly function when I want to see what's on later in the guide. I wondered the same thing.

I've replaced a lot of old sony and rca IRDs.. As the technology leaped ahead with faster data transmission from the sats some of the older stuff is going to crap.. best thing is to get a newer IRD.. we're have the new D11300 which are pretty sweet.... The thing is now that all EQ from DTV is now leased not owned as of March 1st of '06.
