After three and a half years, I am thinking of switching from my Hughes DirecTV TiVo (HDVR2) to the DirecTV DVR plus. The reason for the switch… I think the hard drive on the HDVR2 is getting some bad sectors. I am seeing more and more digital glitches during playback of recorded programs. My signal strength is great and the programs were recorded during clear weather.

In your opinion, should I move to the new non-TiVo DirecTV version or upgrade my existing machine with a new hard drive?

I look forward to your comments.

Thanks!

I would add a new 2 or 300 GIG HD, and keep the Tivo service (it's an easy fix). DirecTV's new DVR service is not as good and the reason that they don't call the units Tivo, is cause they are not!

if you are plugged into a phone line then your hard drive is failing. if you're not plugged in to the phone line plug it in and the problem will fix itself through software downloads. I personally like the r15 dvr but there are some problems with them
