Can I take a bedroom Direct TV receiver to a Latin American Country, install a Dish and then receive the same channels as at home in the US?

Depending on how far south you go you might need a larger dish...at least this is my understanding, though I have yet to figure out the geographic limitations of the standard oval 3 lnb dish...anybody know?

it depends on the country. the satellites supposedly send a spot beam to the U.S. but i know in Jamaica and in Mexico you can get it. In Jamaica you need a bigger 1.5 meter dish, so depending on what Latin American country you are talking about it might work. again, bigger dish probably needed.

there is a website that shows the geographical area covered by a satellite if you know the name of the satellite. so if it's directv 10 (or whatever) then it shows you pretty much most of the American Continent. Again, some one mentioned spot beams so I have to read up on that.
