XM Satellite's Chairman Parsons: 2Q Looks 'Challenging'
5:37 PM EDT May 31, 2006

Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--XM Satellite Radio Inc. (XMSR) is in for a
"challenging" second quarter due to both softness in the retail market
and recent company-specific issues, Chairman Gary Parsons said
Wednesday.
Speaking at an investor conference, Parsons acknowledged that recent
inquiries have been distracting. XM has been slapped with a lawsuit
alleging that its portable player, the "Inno," should be subject to
higher performance rights fees because it can record and store music.
The company is also facing inquiries from the Federal Communications
Commission and the Federal Trade Commission.
XM lowered its year-end subscriber views last week, citing slower
retail sales and slower than anticipated availability of new products.
XM still has a strong product but has suffered from "not as good
execution just of late," Parsons said. Despite the disappointments, "we
hit a lot of the numbers we wanted to hit in the first quarter" and are
now "dedicated to make sure we get back on track."
Parsons said the company's management may need some "augmentation" in
light of recent execution problems. The chairman also defended XM's
management, noting that much of the team has been around for the last
eight years. "It is a team that has had history of positive performance
in the past," he said.

Translation... We're scared for our jobs. Pornero told me to defend
us.

Pornero is toast. The clesarly flawlessly executing management at XM
is not as good as Frontmed said they were. Anyone surprised?

Rich,

The "siriots" from the RB board have been predicting this for a long
time... The fact that the game had changed and it was all about
content. BUT I don't think a single one of us predicted the
trouncing would happen this quickly, or that xm's management would hold
their hands to their eyes as sirius redefined satellite radio.

LOL.

You think it is over? You think Sirius is "trouncing" XM?

You do realize that Sirius will lose $1.1 Billion this year, right?

Until Sirius gets a content item (just one) that measures up to the Dylan
show on XM, I don't see how you can say they "redefined" ----.

But XM still has 20 hours per year of Ophra to fight back with. I'm
worried.

You do realize Riley Martin's show on Sirius probably has the same
amount of listeners as Dylan's show, right? I'm saying this in all
seriousness.

Clearly.

Oh so that's the Winfrey Effect that's been all over the news the past few
months?

Surely, you aren't trying to suggest that that crap is, in any way, on the
same level as Dylan?

The Dylan show has been critically acclaimed, universally.

I would say your comparison speaks volumes about your knowledge of the
subject matter.

I don't think you have any idea how many listeners tune into Riley
Martin.

Yeah I think the Winfrey and the Dylan effect haven't really done as
well as the Riley Effect.

I don't think you do, either.

But I can tell you that mentioning it in the same breath with Bob Dylan is
sufficient to bring into question your knowledge of the subject matter.

This is like comparing The GodFather to The Dukes of Hazzard.

You clearly have no knowledge about the reach of such an individual or
you'd reconsider that.

Leave TV out of this, we're talking about radio here. See the problem
with you Frontmed is you can't keep your eyes on the topic because the
brown in them is obstructing your vision.

The Riley Martin show has been and is currently critically acclaimed
GALATICALLY and things of this nature. We speak his name.

The typical radio listeners have never heard of this person... But you
mention Bob Dylan and they immediately know who he is. I highly doubt
that this Riley person has many listeners at all.

Aside from a few pathetic groupies, exactly what appeal does Dylan's
one hour show about shaving cream or whatever have? It's like he's a
bauble on a charm bracelet. He's not part of the team.

Listen to Sirius. They have CURRENT celebrities on for hours at a
time. They visit each other's studios. They play Heavy Metal Karaoke
together on Fridays.

Dylan sounds like a hermit reading 10 minutes worth of blue cards over
a phone line from his spare bedroom in Malibu. Disconnected from the
world for 40 years and counting.

By ''critically acclaimed, universally'' you of course mean a handful
of reviews on opening day by sycophants.

Dylan is a genius but his show has received virtually no press...
(Oprah either since the first week her show was announced) Critical
acclaim is a nice thing to have, but unless it turns into subs it's
worthless monetarily. Sirius' content is turning into $$$.

I'm sorry. It seems to me around here if you've ever been wrong about
anything you're called an idiot. Even if you are right about MOST things,
you're considered an idiot if you don't say what the majority crowd wants to
hear. You know what I mean.
