I'll occasionally listen to Bruce Williams and regularily listen to
Bob Brinker. These days, Bruce's quality varies greatly, depending
upon his patience and the moron quotient of the caller. <G>
Bob Brinker is often pre-empted by sports on local AM stations, it's
nice to be able to depend on the show via XM. I even look forward to
several of his occasional substitutes, especially Terry Savage and
Bill from Forbes, for alternate viewpoints.
Many of the satellite talk shows are pretty weak. I'd really like to
see Clark Howard, Ray Lucia, and some others there.
I'm not a big fan of Rush / Sean Hannity / Mike Savage / Al Franken
political type shows, regardless of which side of the aisle it speaks
from, or sports talk shows.

I tend to listen to more talk radio nowadays than I used to with
Sirius. With Bubba mid-day and Ferrall at night, Chris Moyles Show on
BBC 1 in the mornings (and sometimes the occasional Stern show, though
rarely), it makes for less time for me to listen to music.
But I do listen to music on the weekends usually or if there's some
topic going on that I have no interest in.

99% of my time is on the music channels. During the NBA season I tune in
the JAZZ games if not on TV.
When on the road I tune in for latest news via FOX or CNN then go back to
music.
My favorite channels are the JAZZ music channels. When I want a change I
tune in coffeehouse, radio margaritaville, moving easy and the country
stations. I seldom surf as most other channels are of no interest to me.

Laura Ingraham is really entertaining. A humorous right-wing
woman. Cigar Dave on the weekends is worth a listen even if
you don't smoke cigars. A man's man who is against the
pussyfication of the male species. Last week he was railing
about the new trend to tone down bachelor parties. He
believes they should all involve strippers and booze.

There are supposed to be another 6-8 WLW-type talk stations in the coming

lot of smaller talkers who have big regional followings.
I think XM is really entering the realm of TOO MUCH content to choose from

I listen to talk radio alot on Sirius because it has less commercials.
Whenever I listened to it on old radio I felt like there was 80%
commercials, 20% show.

Thats what satellite radio is all about as there is programming for almost
any taste.
I for one don't care for talk radio and would not miss it if they removed
all of them.
I do listen to news, like BBC, CNBC, FOX among others. I also like the
sports programming and of corurse music.
I am sure you will find enough talk radio on Xm or sirius to fill your
needs.
In looking at the sirius schedule I note these channels:
159 Christian Talk
145 Fox News Talk
135 NPR Talk
I am sure there are others like ESPN, Sports byLine, for example. Perhaps
others
that like Talk could list other TALK channels.

LOL. You're asking that question on a thread where Siriots outnumber XMers
about 50:1. So, you know what answer you'll get.
XM has more content of all categories than Sirius. Talk is one of them.
It is really necessary to look at the talk channels each carry, strike out
the duplications, and see what's left.
For example, if you insist on Stern, Sirius is your only choice; or if you
insist on O&A, XM is. If you insist on baseball, XM; NFL games, Sirius. If
you insist on Air America, XM. IF you insist on NPR (although, it isn't the
REAL NPR -- they leave out the really good programs like ME and ATC),
Sirius.
Bob Dylan, XM. Eminem, Sirius. Except Eminem isn't actually involved, he
just sold them his name ;)

Eminem/Shady hires all of the people that DJ on his station. Again,
this has been established already in previous threads and proven.
He's also DJed on Shade 45 several times, just not with any frequency.

Oh, it is for both services. But as it has turned out, many of the people
here are stockholders in one or the other, and Sirius has about 45x as many
stockholders as XM (900,000 : 20,000).

Well the MyFi has a recording function, but it's more like a VCR than a
Tivo. The Inno also has a lot more space.
So no not really.
> Same question for Sirius users
On Sirius they're supposed to release the SW100 in the summer, which
will compete directly. Their current offering records, but doesn't
receive a live signal when not on a dock.
If you're not in a rush I'd wait for two reasons. 1> The Inno/Helix
(same unit) will probably drop in price some. 2> Sirius's unit should
be out soon.
If you just wanted to get a feel for satellite radio in some form, you
could get a cheap receiver and then just move your subscription over to
something better later in time. Also, you could check out the online
streams, though if you're into Talk/News you won't be able to get those
streams online.

Go with cheap receiver for now and buy fancy one at
later date
On the MyFi tho..... you says its like a VCR.
Does this mean it will do SOME time shifting of
programs?
I'm not looking to keep hundreds of recorded shows ala
the Inno..... only to have capability to time shift

Yeah the buffer is only 5 hours, but it does allow scheduling.

Check out page 18 and 19 specifically. This is the Myfi manual.

It's on par with any other XM unit, but is several years old. It'll
set you back probably 100-150 bucks if you look around. I'd check
Ebay and Pricegrabber.com for potential deals.
You can walk around with it and get live reception, but again, with the
same caveats you would have with any other unit of similar design. It
is "Satellite" Radio, which means unless you're in a major city with a
repeater, there are things that can take your signal out if not
outdoors in the park, etc.
Naturally, your recorded content would serve for this time period.
You should thumb through the manual of any unit you're going to buy
too. Most of them are available online and will help you research what
the unit will offer you.

At this point, if you need a "live" on the go wearable, either the MyFi with
the antenna headphones or an Inno would be your only alternative.
If you don't care about portability, you could go with the XM MyFis, Inno,
the Samsung Nexus, or the Sirius S50. Of those, the S50 is the only one
that gets Sirius, but it is also the only one with a bug list so big that it
requires its own forum at SBS, and there is no live reception unless docked.
If you're considering an S50, you would want to check this out first:
http://siriusbackstage.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=37
While the Inno has a couple of minor problems, I think they're pretty much
getting handled.
Basically, at this point, unless you're willing to tolerate major bug issues
with the S50, the MyFi, Inno, and Samsung devices are your only choices.
None of these devices is equivalent to "TIVO" in that there are no program
guides associated with them.

Actually, the buffer length depends on what you're listening to. For
example, if you were recording a classical channel, you might only get five
hours, but if you were recording a rap channel you might get 10 hours. If
you were recording the comedy channel you might get more. It just depends
on the compression level.

The MyFi will work nicely. However, if you're not in an area served by
repeaters, you will want the antenna-headset option:
http://cgi.ebay.com/XM-Satellite-Radio-Delphi-MyFi-Headphones-NIB-NR_W0QQitemZ9739562998QQihZ008QQcategoryZ109275QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I use these when I'm doing yardwork, and will get a consistent good signal
with zero dropouts.
If you're in an area served by repeaters, you may not need these.
I have 1 MyFi and 1 Tao. They're the same but the Tao has a slightly bigger
angle on the remote sensor. No other differences. You can record any show
by clicking a button -- or you can schedule two shows to record daily or
weekly.
My daughter can't get reception in the gym where she goes, so she records
fresh content daily to take in with her. Seems to work great.
You should be able to get a bargain on a receiver at ebay.

You can get an Airware or similar on e-bay at a good price now. I have the
Airware and it is great. I live in the boonies so to get reception without
the house or car antenna I had to get an external antenna. I haven't tried
the headphone/antenna combo, but I got the ClipXT and it is exceptional - I
even get reception inside my house! You can record about 5 hours more or
less of content and then play it back. If you are recording channels with
commercials, you can just hit the "skip" button when they come up on the
recorded content and you don't have to listen to them. I record lots of the
Old Time Radio and talk shows to listen to later and it is nice to just skip
the commercials and promo adds.
What I like about it most is the ability to go outside when working on the
yard or house and listen to live content, I just hope XM gets rid of some of
the music channels and puts more talk/radio theater channels on the air.
