From the Sirius Site:

"Subscribe for the lifetime of your radio! Pay ONLY $499.99 once and forget about bills. Plus, act soon and you can transfer your lifetime subscription to a different SIRIUS Receiver when you upgrade or replace your radio — up to three times — for only $75 per radio. Offer ends July 31, 2006. Hurry!"

I will be a first time subsriber. I have not even purchased my equipment yet, but to me this sounds like a good deal. I figure that if I pay for it by the year, ,after a little more than 3 years I will have paid $499.99. So by electing the "lifetime of your radio" plan, I will essentially get it for free after 3 years!

I would imagine these radios last more than a few years, so perhaps the plan could last the rest of my life. I'm planning to start of with the Sportster Replay, might as well go with one of their best models and hope it lasts.

Have any of you tried the lifetime plan? Am I missing something, perhaps it's not as good of a deal as I think it is?

Lifetime Plan is definately the best deal if you love Sirius and plan to never go back to regular garbage radio. I got the lifetime plan and am now two years into my first reciever still...one of the original SIrius SPortsters....with no problems at all. It pays off in a short amount of time.

I would highly recommend sticking with a sirius model, like you said you wanted (Sportster replay) as opposed to some JVC or Audiovox...heard bad things about them....

Keep in mind that with the Sportster Replay, simpler might be better. While the "rewind" feature is kinda cool, simpler is sometimes better as there are less things to go wrong. SIrius just relesed their newest SPortster model...its pretty spendy but looks awesome....has a MP3 player plugin on it.....

With the Sirius lifetime plan you can transfer your 'lifetime' subscription to (up to) 3 different receivers for a fee of $75 per transfer. That part kinda stinks, but overall it is still a very good deal as long as you dont want the 'newest' receiver every couple of months.
