I am just wondering how many of you fellow members are in the same boat as I am. I had cable with a company that totally sucked. I was being charged about &65.00 / month and it was always going down. No black box just paid for the plain stuff like HBO and Starz. I heard of DTV and switched. It was a little bit cheaper and offered a little bit more. I subscribed with 2 HU cards (damn if I only knew then what I know now!!) and pay about $60.00 / month. It is a fair deal! Then I heard of programming, and though I enjoy the channels, it is really just a hobby to keep me thinking and on my toes. I still pay the monthly charge but now have 2 HU's and one H. But with D$% hitting us like he has these past few months I am beginning to think I should switch back to cable. My cable company got bought out and now is much better from what I hear, they offer cable internet, (I currently have ISDN, they do not offer DSL up where I am. So a cable modem would be great!!) They also now have the music channels as well. I can easily go and buy a black box and get all the channels and then don't have to worry about ECM's, USW's again. D%^ is out of the $60.00 and I throw the system away and sit back and watch TV via cable.

Just wondering who else is thinking this way as well.

I don't understand, I was going to give you the "It's just a hobby" speech, but you seem to have that part down, You can't blame DTV for these updates, if you were them you do the same thing, they are trying to protect what they believe is there's... If you enjoy the hobby, keep playing the game, when it becomes unenjoyable, by all means STOP. Getting irratated and worked up by this isn't worth it, if this is happening to you, get cable...Either way, RELAX:)

skimtbaldy,
If you do decide to stop and throw away everything, please be sure to send me your H card so I can make sure it is destroyed. I would hate to see it fall into the wrong hands.

Tdonn,

Thanks for the reply!!! Yes it is just a hobby! And a fun one at that. It was a blast doing my first card!! I am not irritated, just curious. Isn't dave just getting a little bit ridiculous. Reading past posts and looking at the download area it seems that ecm's and updates use to be about once a quarter. Now they are getting to be almost monthly. If this is not correct please let me know.

I have only had my h card for about 5 months now and programming for only 1 month. Before I had to resend card to programmer. That was really ridiculous! I was getting hit a lot more when I had a unknown sub'd bin from programmer. Now that I have good bin from neighbor it won't be as bad as I should not get that dreaded 745 message again.

I just wanted to know others thoughts on this subject. That is why I put it in the B/S section!!

Skimybaldy....That's better, I thought you seemed mad, my mistake, I guess the general concensus is that cable sucks(what a surprise in a forum about Sat.TV) :)

DTV will continue, if not step up the updates, there main objective is the dealers, you said you used to have your card done, how would you like to be that guy right now? :p

If they can sucessfully weed out the dealers, they will get the "most bang for the buck".....They're hoping the dealers will just give up, or there is a growing number of people(me being one of them), who believe they are also trying to steer the dealers into activation scipts and then send down one big nasty ECM:eek:

For the rest of us, they are just making up pay for TV (About 15 minutes a whack, not a bad price, heh??)We'll just have to muddle through and see what they have in store for us.................TDonn

DTV is after the dealers. If it only takes you 15 minutes
to add a update just think how long it takes a dealer who
has hundreds or more customers to get corrected. But what
DTV does not realize ( maybe they do) is that with each update they are putting more money in the dealers pocket.
I believe that as long as the freeware Guys keep putting out this great software and scripts it is my duty to use it. In a way, their hobby supports mine. I will always use my H-card, someday it maybe just to sit my beer on.

Cable sucks. I do pay DTV for my sub and will continue to do so. I also sub to DirecPC so cable modems don't impress me either. If you have good cable in your area and you would rather pay them than DTV when your test card quits working, ... I'll stick with my better picture, more channels, and 18" dish.

You have DirecPC?? And you like it???? From what I've read about DirecPC, I wouldn't go near it. But I would love to be able to try out a cable modem.

Well I don't have access to any kind of faster connection like cable, DSL, etc.. I have tried to justify Direct PC, but I have heard negative things about it. What about the monthly data limits...has that been a problem for you?
