I signed up with dish network, received my brand new 622 HD DVR receiver to connect to my brand new HD TV. Imagine how excited I was to watch NASCAR in HD.
Well, about three weeks ago it started blacking out. It would lose signal at the most inopportune times. The problem has gotten progressively worse. It blacks out when it goes to a commercial, or there is any kind of action on the screen.
So i did what any customer paying what i am paying would do. I called them. I finally get to level II tech support, and the guy says it has to be a bad 622 receiver, and they would send a technicion with a new one. So about 1 1/2 weeks later i am taking a day off work waiting for him. The first thing he says to me when he arrives is that its NOT the receiver. I had him switch it out anyway. And sure enough it did (and still does) exactly the same thing.
IT TURNS OUT... that there is somekind of 'firmware' problem in THEIR end. They are not really sure what is causing it, and i was told i would just have to live with it until they managed to fix it. Its tough to live with a picture that blacks out every 15 to 45 seconds for 5 seconds, but i guess i will give them a month or so to fix it.
I'm also a little peeved that they don't seem to care enough to let their customers know about the problem when they are selling me a 500 dollar peice of equipment. According to the repair guy they knew about the problem, but are just not telling people. He said he had been on four calls the same week for the same problem.
So if you are thinking about getting Dish, my advice is to wait.
