View Full Version : Chalk Up Another XM "Subscriber"

I have once again joined the ranks of XM "subscribers." I put the word
in quotes because it is not by my own choice: I purchased a new Honda
vehicle yesterday, and an XM receiver and 3 months' worth of XM
service came bundled in the price. This happened to me once before
when I bought an Acura TL a couple of years ago. Back then, I allowed
the subscription to lapse after my pre-paid three months ran out; I
plan to do the same thing again this time. After that, I'll probably
have the XM receiver module removed and replaced with a Honda Music
Link iPod adapter:

In the meantime, maybe I'll use this opportunity to tune in to that
Opie & Anthony train wreck and see what all the fuss is about. :)

Why wait? Are you going to torture yourself with XM content just because
you aren't having to pay for it?
Good luck getting a diversity of music, news, sports, and talk programming
with that IPod (I love my Ipod, loaded with 15,000 tracks of my own music.
I leave it at home almost all the time because it lacks the diversity of 70
music channels on XM).

By the time your Honda promo period runs out with XM, Sirius will have
the SIR-HM1 conversion box out. The SIR-GM1 is selling like hotcakes.
That has to hurt XM's SAC and churn (take rate).

TANSSAAFL. I *am* paying for it - the costs are bundled into the
selling price of the car. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling
themselves.

I have all the iPod diversity I want with my timeshifted content from
Howard 100 and Howard 101. :)

I'll bet!
BTW, I've noticed that some car manufacturers are getting smart and
offering buyers a choice of either XM *or* Sirius. At least that way
the buyer isn't stuck paying hundreds of dollars for a receiver module
that is useless to them.

Geez. That's what I call an open mind. "All You Need is Stern".

It isn't really a matter of "getting smart". Almost all have now lined up
on one side or the other, mostly with XM. But Toyota and Nissan are
temporarily offering both until they get their factory XM program up and
running, after which if you want satellite radio and the data services that
come with it, there will be one option only -- XM.

<shrug> Not everyone likes what you like. That's also a form of
diversity. :)
