I recordeed the Pretenders on XM 44 Fred today, recorded live at Irving
Plaza, New York City. I don't listen to Fred much, nor Lucy or Ethel.
Are these names likely to tell me something about the content of these
channels? I don't get jit. Maybe Shrimp Frontmed Davey can explain it
to me.
Chrissie was great, and the bad news; the new box set is $70.
BTW: George Taylor Morris is the worst interviewer ever. Wait, maybe
not. What was that PBS show hosted by John Hiatt and David Byrne? I
can't remember but GTM is right up there with those other bad
interviewers.

So, this is what you listen to? The fucking Pretenders? This is what you
call great music?
I think I see where you're coming from now. Next you'll be listening to Boy
George.

Frontmed you should really see someone about your anger problem.

Angry? Me?
Hell I love it. I never get tired of making you look like a damned fool.
I'm still laughing about that threat of yours to compare the dilution
between XM & SIRI. Told it to a room fool of people & they were ALL
laughing their asses off.

Sounds like this is one place where you & I agree to disagree,
frontmed. You may not appreciate some of the tight doo wop harmony,
but that doesn't make it all bad. Any more than not liking opera can
dull the pleasure at hearing Pavarotti, Joan Sutherland or Bocelli.
And, if your present "handle" refers to Lodi, NJ, instead of the one in
CA, then you might have listened to the origins of free form radio on
WFMU with Vin Scelsa, myself & others on the air at various times in
its history. A truly unique experience -- if only the sets on Fine
Tuning even came close to being as good music mixes.

I don't think there was ever an appropriate label for his particular
brand of "bubblegum rock".

Shrimpboy Lowdown Davey: You're such a hypocrite. You defend XM for
playing old, marginal artists yet belittle the recently inducted Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame Chrissie Hynd. What a loser. It's just further
evidence you don't know and you don't care.
Still, I'd like like an answer. What's all the Fred, Lucy and Ethyl
stuff? What are these channel designations suppose to tell me?

I'm not sure we really disagree; I have no problem with the Pretenders. But
it doesn't strike me as something to get excited about.
Fine Tuning is a really tough call for me -- I like it, but I find I don't
listen to it much. Too all over the place, I think.

I don't think they're supposed to "tell" you anything. Can't you just
listen to them and see if you like them or not without having a convenient
classification for them?

Depends on what your memories are. :-)

Exactly my point. There's nothing unifying any of the sets. It can be
very interesting combining seemingly incompatible forms of music if
they're linked by musical structure or sound or by some common theme in
the lyrics or, by contrast, things that are opposite. I've yet to hear
a whole set that works in any of those ways on Fine Tuning. Although
they have played some things that used to fly under my radar. :-)
