I just had one of the Sirius FM Relay installed along with the docking station for my my new Sportster Replay receiver. Generally, all works great. However, I had a day recently where there was a lot of static even though reception was strong and normal FM was fine. My question is this: I have to have my Sportster "FM transmitter" set to ON in the vehicle. Is this correct? It is OFF in my home docking station. I was wondering if something was not hooked up during the installation. I am brand new to this so any help is greatly appreciated.

I also have a home docking station and a "hard wired" vehicle dock for my Sporster. I leave the transmitter set to "on" for both and get perfect sound. If you were talking about your VEHICLE when you stated "However, I had a day recently where there was a lot of static even though reception was strong and normal FM was fine," then you don't have something connected correctly. The whole purpose of the FM transmitter in a vehicle is that is "cuts out" the outside FM frequencies by stopping your FM antenna from broadcasting those frequencies. I have the FM transmitter "plug in" in my vehicle, and when I turn my Sportster on, it effectively cuts out all other FM antenna reception transmissions.
If you have the FM transmitter hardwired in your vehicle and your Sporster is docked and turned on, normal FM terrestrial frequencies should barely come in...if at all. The tranmitter shuts off your antenna's terrestrial reception. Try this to see if your tranmitter is hooked up correctly:
Turn your FM frequency to a terrestrial signal that is strong in your area. THen, set your frequency on your Sportster to the same frequency. If your sporster overrides your normal terrestrial signal and comes in clearly when turned on, then it is hooked up correctly. Then, turn your sportster off, and you will hear the regular terrestrial radio signal strengthen considerably. If this does not happen, then something is wrong with your connection.
