View Full Version : JVC head unit won't recognize Sirius tuner

Hey -
I have a JVC sirius-ready car stereo and a sirius tuner.
When I first installed everything and hooked up the tuner/antenna I
turned on the stereo and it recognized the tuner right off the bat.
Everything worked great until I accidentally crimped the antenna wire
in my trunk hinge. Suddenly, my tuner wouldn't get a signal at all -
after about a week of this, the stereo stopped recognizing the tuner
completely.

Since then, I have replaced the antenna wire and my stereo still won't
recognize the tuner. I have power cycled the car, reset the stereo
presets, everything I can think of to try and get it to recognize the
tuner again. Is it possible that switching to the tuner while the
antenna is out could burn out the tuner? Is there anything that I can
do to try and get the radio to connect to the tuner again?

Thanks - take care.

It sounds like there is a possibility you nuked the tuner. What I'd do
is try to get in touch with Sirius, they should pass you onto Directed
and get the unit exchanged.

by power cycle, do you mean turned the key off/on? or do you mean
'detached the battery, waited 30 minutes, connected it back'?

You may want to try the latter just to make sure that your JVC head
unit didn't just get stupid and 'forget' about the Sirius tuner box.
When I had my Kenwood head/tuner combo that happened once.

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I pulled the negative terminal of my battery. I also reset the
factory settings on the head unit. Sounds like you may be right about
the nuked tuner.
As painful as it sounds, I've been feeling so lonely w/out my Sirius.
Thanks for the feedback.

I would be too. But on the bright side, the sooner you call someone to
get an exchange then the sooner you're back in the game.
