Hi, I am a Direct TV subscriber in Northern Virginia, and I lose my transponders every single night at either 9:05pm, 10:05pm or 11:15pm. It varies by day. If it's a Sunday, I lose them at 9:05, on Monday through Thursday, I lose them at 10:05pm, and on Friday and Saturday I lose them at 11:15pm. I lose all the transponders for about an hour or so, then I get half of them back, so my signal strength indicators will be:

1 97 0 98 0 97 0 98 0

and so on and so-forth. By 7am in hte morning everything is running fine, and stays running fine until that time of the night. My provider hasn't been able to solve the issue, despite repeated service calls.

Does anyone here have any suggestions as to what might be causing this???

Thanks,
Satuser2

The power to the lnb's comes from your receiver. I would be calling the local utility to have them discover whether or not there is some thing, industry or grow op that is causing a sort of "brown out" in your power, and thus affecting your receiver.

If you have a friend, invite him over for a beer, and tell him to bring his receiver. Make the time 1/2 hour before 9:05 pm or whatever is the usual time and have his receiver plugged in and see what happens. If it happens to his receiver, it's the electric supply. If his receiver is not affected, then it is your receiver.

Good luck.

Would a U.P.S. unit help w/ this problem?

Until you determine the problem using two receivers, the UPS icould be just a waste of money. However, if the power is that erratic, then perhaps an UPS would help.
Because I have never experienced the problem, I have nothing to base the effectiveness of an UPS.

I guess ithe UPS is similar to chicken soup being taken for a cold cure.. It may not help, but it won't hurt.. :)
