View Full Version : Who makes the best HDTV Satellite Receiver?

Maybe I’m picky – but we’ve had Direct-TV for a few years now and I find it irritating that Direct TV shows the same shows on 2, 3, and even 4, different channels – 2-3 are usually HD. I don’t understand that at all??? The same show on at least 2 different HD channels?

Lately we’ve had 4 digit-blocks when we use our channel selector – does anyone know why there are 4?

Is there such a thing as “ONE” very good receiver that will pick “any” satellite service – even if that means mounting a larger dish or some type of multi-dish setup?

Do any of the receivers automatically up-scale (is that a real term?) to HD so we don’t have to wait for the other channels to get HD?

I thought I read about a company that charged a one time 5-thousand dollar fee for their equipment and service – then an annual fee of a few hundred bucks – but they allowed you to view any channel including channels in Europe? I’ve tried searching for it again with no luck. I thought it was some type of elite expensive service that the “Rich & Famous” use so they can take their mobile satellite systems anywhere and still watch whatever they wanted. It was something like those satellite systems used on yachts…

Anyway – we built a new house and I was hoping to find the perfect system to setup and be done with it all… I don’t watch much sports – though I used to years ago. I think most of the HD channels are a waste with Direct-TV because they use it for the Stand-Up Comedians – Talk Shows – etc – why do they waste the good channels on Talk Shows and Stand-Up Comedians? I don’t get it?

I’d appreciate any suggestions – I’m trying to learn about this stuff and I think I have a long ways to go yet…

Thanks
David
