View Full Version : Dropout problem - do I need a new receiver?

I have an RCA DRD430RG (currently discontinued) receiver. When I lived in Virginia, I had random dropouts but I attributed it to the fact that the dish was pointing through some trees. I moved to rural Utah and still have the dropouts even though the dish is pointed to a clear area of sky with no obstructions. The dropouts can occur at any time of day or night, on any channel, in any kind of weather, even clear skys. The signal strength is 90. When a dropout occurs, the ss drops to zero and then back to 90 - no values between zero and 90 are ever seen. I tried two different cables between dish and receiver. I replaced the LNB - no change. I monitored the 110 volt house line voltage going into the receiver and saw no variation while the dropouts were occuring (unless there were high speed spikes that the voltmeter could not see). So it seems that the only thing left is the receiver. So I have 2 questions:

1. Can anyone think of anything else that I should check?

2. If I go to BestBuy or someplace and buy a new receiver to replace my current one, am I going to get hosed by DirecTV for a monthly lease fee? I own my current receiver and am not currently paying a lease fee.

Sincere thanks,
