Hi all,
I'm looking into purchasing a free to air system, 31" to 36" dish with motor. The only experience I had is setting up a pansat at my parents house to receive the Italian programming on Galaxy 10r a few years back.

Anyway, I'm in my own house now and looking to set up a system. I want to be able to get maximum amount of channels using a motor on the dish.
I'm not sure if I will mount the dish on the roof which is all clear or mount it on the floor on a mast but then I will lose the lower elevation birds.

Anyway, Ive been thinking of getting the coolsat 6000, with a Fortec 36" dish. Is this a good setup? Is there is big difference in reception between a 31" , 33" or 36" dish?
The motor confuses me a little. What "range" will it be able to move? For instance, I'm looking for my dish to start at 148w, but how far east will it move? Can I hit the 61.5w starting from 148w or can it go further?

Also, Ive seen some receivers (cant remember the name) where the systems automatically setsup the motor and finds the satellites. Is this a worthy feature for setting up?
Any other features that I may/will need?

Thanks in advance for your input!

I am in a similar situation as you given this attempt to start a discussion with this thread. I am pretty much considering the same equipment!

A couple of observations about FTA postings here a reflection on the community--In other areas of tech interest one can pretty-much rely upon forum members to voluntarily provide some feedback . . . when they have the time and inclination (no pun intended, lol).:gg Members of this forum appear to be fairly distracted from the topic as those who view do not routinely respond.

For instance, I’ve been following an LCD TV model’s thread for over 2 months; the topic is much less demanding of tech savvy but the members consistently share with one another. Very good discussion that consistently demonstrates how support of one another produces insight and positive experience with electronics, computers, new technology, etc.!

Did you ever get any response to this post . . . ever . . . I mean at this time it's been over a month? Also what information did you develop on your own in isolation? Did you find a more excellent forum for discussions? Would you be willing to pass this info along please?

It is disappointing to find such a dead zone for interaction about FTA when membership and common interest hold out the possibility of sharing experience and overcoming the limitations of ignorance.

Best,

Psient

I just set up a motorized system from Sadoun (Fortec Mercury II receiver, 90cm Fortec motorized antenna). Once the system is set up properly and aimed right, the receiver finds satellites very well using either Diseq or Usals. As for range, I can hit Hispasat at 30W and can also see Echostar1/2 at 148W. Hispasat is a little tricky, as the signal comes and goes depending on the time of day. Perhaps a larger dish would fix this.

My dish is mounted on my roof- if I put it on the ground I couldn't see much of anything. If I were you, I'd put yours on the roof to make sure you could see as much as possible- it doesn't do any good to have a motorized dish if you can't see anything :)
