I am wondering if I can use a dish network receiver with a dish network card on the ExpressVu network. I'm not looking to hack it or do anything like that. I just want to know if I buy a receiver that has a dish network card that normal in all ways will work in Canada.

Legally, you probably can't mix providers..

My understanding is that while both sets of equipment are manufactured by/for EchoStar, there are differences in the software and firmware (hardware-based software installed during manufacture) that prevent gear from one company working with the other's signal. I've also read that system serial numbers are registered with the respective providers... I read this as a non-competition agreement in force...

Practical example from another field: My Dell laptop (bought new) has it's s/n registered to Canada - calling support in the USA generates an error when the tech looks up my system... Same company, different licensing...

Regards...

If the serial number is not in BEV's database then they won't activate it at all.
