I'm not an expert, but the problem is that if you have a standard sized dish... "a small one" you will not be able to capture the Bell signal down south in the US. You need a bigger dish, but I have no idea how big since not many people are trying what you want to do. I read that a few years ago the signal was very strong down in the US, but Bell only has rights to broad cast in Canada so they focused the signal strength and both of their satellites toward Canada.

Any way’s, if you find a bigger dish, it should work.

I am just back from a trip to Hollywood, Florida.

My 4100 model that was working just fine for me in april 2007 (with a small dish) is not anymore enable to received a lot of french language channels (super écran, RDS and all the Montréal channels for instance).

It seems that Bell have changed something, either the strenght of the signal or the allocation of channels on the differents transponders.

I am not anymore able to received (lock) the signal on transponders 4, 8, 10, 12, 18, 22, 24 and 26.

Anybody aware of any recent change by Bell.

micklok & GIl,

Here's a story for you guys. I'm from Montreal & just moved to Miami. I own a condo for 10 years which is a vacation home. I moved to Miami because of work. Now, i bought a brand new BEV 9200 receiver and paid 300$ to ship it here (because we all know how important those french channels are). I install it and guess what, I am not able to receive (lock) the signal on transponders 4, 8, 10, 12, 18, 22, 24 and 26. I have tried everything except upgrading to a bigger dish, now i called BEV and was told that i absolutely need satellite 82 in order to get all the channels(not sure if they understood what i was telling them). Mainly, i am interested in RDS but not sure if it has been relocated to 82 or what but we definitely need to work something out. Let's see together if someone has tried a bigger dish or if someone knows for sure what channels are on which satellites. Hockey season is starting soon and its gonna get ugly. This problem affects everyone in south florida so someone will eventually come with a solution or a dish size which will pick up the transponders

Thanks!!!

Bad news for you Shpack, RDS is on transponder 26. I would greatly appreciate if somebody would explain to me why here in Montréal, satellite 91 does the job and not in Florida. Why we will need to get 82 there to receive everything. My comprehension is that they start to utilize 82 for HD signals last spring and change at the same time all the transponders allocation.

Any expert to help out there?

Thanks.

Hi all,
We are a couple guys more south than you having the same problem (State of Chihuahua Mexico). We have problem on Satellite 91 and 82 and we haven't found the solution yet. We will try the bigger dish soon and let you know.

I'm sorry for you guys. Bigger dish shouldn't works! Here is an explanation.

Nimiq 1 has a limited amount of power. Bell need to had backup!

Since 2004, Bell Xvu rent Nimiq 3 from DirectTV. Bell wants to optimize the power of Nimiq 1 on 91. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_ExpressVu). So Nimiq 1 and 3 are on the same orbit. Close enough that your dish sees both sat only as one. And they call them only Nimiq 1.

They shut down 8 transponders on Nimiq 1 and activate only 8 transponders on Nimiq 3. In 2004 the 3, 7, 9, 11, 17, 21, 23, 25 transponders were down on Nimiq 1 and transfered to Nimiq 3. Remember, at that time the new software (from transponder 11) couldn't be download in the south like Florida. You had to point to Nimiq 2 on 82 to update software.

Few days ago, Bell Xvu changes the 8 transponders (4, 8, 10, 12, 18, 22, 24, 26) to Nimiq 3. The previous missing one came back to Nimiq 1!

Unfortunatly, Nimiq 3 (http://img202.exs.cx/img202/1898/expressvucoverage4sa.jpg)
has a narrower footprint than Nimiq 1 (http://www.kusat.com/go.php?path=/install/foot-display.php?nickname=nimiq).
And it's not covering Florida!

Check this web site http://bellsrdu.ca/bell_expressvu_channel_lineup.html
To see which channel will be missing. Missing channel won't be found on Nimiq 2 at 82.

Any change since september. Do the missing channels are still limited to transponders 4, 8, 10, 12, 18, 22, 24 and 26.

Some says that Bell had made new moves recently in order to put an end to any reception in south Florida, whatever the transponder.

Thanks

Hello everyone..

Well, currently i am staying in South texas, well, actually mission, texas. I was using a dish500 sat to get nimiq 91 and i do get most channels except transponders 2, 4, 8 and some others. I have a HD unit and been trying for the last couple of days to get lock signal on nimiq 82, with a dish 500 i get 47% signal but only limited transponders and can't lock signal. I am trying a SKY dish from mexico and a new HD satellite from directv, it's the new one with 4 lnbs hopefully i can get a stronger signal. will let everyone know of my results..
thanks and good luck.

We have a PVR 9200 from Bell expressvu and a HD TV .No problems what so ever with all the normal chanel, but we do not see how we can catch HD channels. We did not find a way to get satellite 82.
We have the new dish (multi-Satellite)with the sw21 but we do not have the Skew for our area. Please inform us if you finds a way to get them.
Thanks in advance.Marcel

The 2 birds at 82 degrees, Nimiq 2 and 4iR are both weak and not giving out full coverage like the birds at 91 degrees, so the only way is a much bigger Dish and even then I am not convinced you will get enough signal to make it work.

Good news is a new Bird launches this year, Nimiq 4, this will replace the 2 old ones at 82 degrees, so hopefully the footprint will cover you guys.

i have been using my bell 3100 in south florida from ft pierce to the middle florida keys for 4 winters mounted on a sailboat using a follow-me-tv mounting system. originally i used an 18" dish but found it marginal in reception so i went to a 24" dish on the recommendation of other sailors who also travel the bahamas and south. a larger dish has less margin for error. i was missing some of the mentioned transponders early this year but as of early february i get all(most over 60% strength). for some reason they come in stronger in the late day - maybe it something to do with the sun. besides in such good weather who watches tv in the day time. steve

Spend 6 months of the year in Lake Havasu City Arizona. Have always had Bell , and used it with success, until this year. Don't receive transponders, 4,8,10,18,22,24,26. I was told a larger dish would bring in these signals stronger, so I tried a 32" dish, no difference at all. Does anyone out there know if the new satellite Bell is putting up this year will improve my situation down here in Arizona?? Or has anyone got another solution to my problem?

You might have to just reboot your receiver as you are only receiviny the odd transponders. Try holding the power button and the receiver reboots with your programing. Hope it works
