Hello,
I have a question....
Right now I have the DTV 3LNB dish and the HR10 HD TIVO. Everything works great. I have purchased the HR20-700, b-band converters and the Slimline 5LNB dish. I called a satellite pointing guy to install the the dish and he told me that we are too far north to get the new sats. He stated that he has not been able to get a signal yet. I told him that it is prob cause they are not active yet. He proceeded to tell me that I do not know what I am talking about and pretty much to F*ck off.
My question is can I receive the new HD channels in calgary with the correct equipment? I know I will not get the local spot beamed stuff but was hoping for the National HD channels. Will I have to buy the big dish? Does it do KA/KU?
Thanks,
Brad

Your installer is a moron. up to this week there was now way for him to pick up any signal from 99 0r 103 because they were all spot beams. directv's new sat d10 has started to come on line this week and is now showing signal on all transponders. I live in minnesota and am getting 95% on all transponders. Find someone else to set up your dish or set it up yourself.

I will let you know Saturday afternoon. I am having my Slimline 5 LNB dish installed and will be activating an HR20 DVR in Calgary, so check back here around 1 pm Saturday.

Sorry for the late post, was too excited watching football all weekend. Here's the deal -- it works great. However, they haven't turned up all the new HD channels but are planning to this week. I got all the NFL games in HD yesterday and I get the "big 4" US networks in HD, but only because of my "service" address. You need to have a service address that is either unable to receive off-air signals (making you eligible for "national" feeds of the big 4 networks) or that is an LA or NYC address (thus giving you access to the "national" feeds for these "local" channels). My service address is in Socal, so none of the "spot-beam" channels show up for obvious reasons. However, for some reason I can get the LA networks on channels 81, 83, 87 and 89. Those channels are the same as the spot beamed channels but are available on a national feed to fill in the gaps for areas that are not in local broadcast areas. I am receiving great signal levels on 101, 110 and 119 and decent signal levels on one of the other sats (103, maybe? -- that is probably the ka/ku bird). I am using the BBCs, not sure if they are required for my current HD channels or just the new ones. I also don't know how many of the new HD channels I'll get, but as long as I have sunday ticket, ESPN and the FSN channels in HD, along with the big 4 networks in HD, I'm happy...the rest would be additonal bonus if they work. I watchedUCLA in HD for some reason Saturday but could only get the Dodger game in SD so I'm still trying to figure out which channels are tied to the spotbeams vs. the wide reach transponders. If you have another installer come out, make sure you have the right AZ/EL and tilt settings (your HR20 rec'r allows you put in your lat/long in additon to zip code and it accepts lat/long readings outside the US). My guy was aiming at 148 initially and I had nothing so I told him to try more like 161 and they all came up pretty quickly.

I'm curious what your actual signal levels are. Also, if you were happy with your guy do you mind sharing his info as I'm in Calgary as well? Thanks

Do you have a name and phone number of the installer in Calgary for the Slim-line Dish... I need to have someone install mine for me.
Thanks in advance...

I just received my Slimline 5LNB dish, and am just getting ready to set up here in Calgary. Can anyone please advise me as to the angles to be pointing the dish to? Thanks.

I used skew of 100.5 and elev of 31. decent strength. Lose signal on 103 (c) once in awhile if a rain cloud goes over but for the most part not bad. Anyone else?
