I recently moved to a new house and brought 3 D10-300s that I own with me and had DTV install a 4th receiver, a D11-100, to hook up to the new oval multi-room dish that they installed. All receivers work OK, and I now want to try to use a D10-300 that a friend gave me as an extra receiver in another room that is not used too often. I plan to split the signal going to receiver 4 with an A/B switch and when the 5th receiver is ON, I'll just remove the access card from 4 and insert into 5. I did a test and substituted receiver 5 for 4 today and switched cards, but I keep getting an error message from DTV, even though the receivers are identical.

Are the registrations for access cards programmed only to work with the registered serial numbers for receivers? I always assumed it was just the access card that had to be registered.

I also have 2 old RCA receivers that I own and would like to use one of them, too. The on-screen graphics are much better and readable when surfing channels, and as I recall were user selectable.

The access cards are locked to a specific receiver. It is not possible to transfer an access card from one receiver to another. If you want to install a 5th receiver, it needs its own access card and you will be charged $4.99/mo for the additional receiver.

Another way to accomplish what you want is to split the video signal coming from your fourth receiver and run the cable to to the room with your 5th TV. You can then buy an RF remote control to use for that 5th location. I don't know if the D10-300 is already RF capable or not... if it's not you'll need a remote control signal sender (a device that receives the RF signal and outputs IR) for the location with the fourth receiver as well.
