Direct TV Locals available nationwide?

I am a technical buff and was just thinking about signal delivery. I have often wondered if it is technically possible to pick up Buffalo New York locals in another city, like Detroit, MI ? I know DISH uses spot beams that make this signal not able to be picked up in Detroit. Does DIRECT TV use the same system? I was just thinking and hope you can put my mind to rest. Of course this is predicated on the assumption that Direct TV knows that someone is in Detroit and they are allowing Buffalo stations to be picked up there.

All Directv locals are on spotbeams also. However, it might be possible to still see Buffalo from Detroit. All depends on how much territory the spotbeam for Buffalo covers.
