We just bought a flat panel, hd ready, so had Dish replace our old dvr satellite, with the hd/dvr satellite.
Our picture quality seems to be worse. Non HD channels almost appear cartoonish, and HD channels are not as clear as they described in advertising.
We've called tech support, have gone through changing ratio of picture size, etc.
Can anyone give any suggestions? Thank you!

ive seen it alot ... reg tv looks crappy on a hd tv...

one thing too is you have to stay back from the tv ... there is a formula about the size tv & good viewing distance...
another thing is the quality of the tv ...

i think the most important thing is the viewing distance ... check with a a/v tv store professional...

Thank you for your reply! The picture is much worse than it was before installing this hd receiver, and now I've just turned on our smaller flat panel in the kitchen, and notice that the picture is worse on this one too, although it's not hooked up to the same receiver.
I'm now wondering if it has to do with whatever the technician did to the dish up on the roof?
We've called Dish, having someone come out this weekend. I need someone to actually see this in person, it's too hard to describe to them over the phone.
Thanks again!

What was the outcome of your situation? I just upgraded to HD using the Dish DVR722. I was disappointed in the quality of the HD channels. They have a good picture, don't get me wrong. But they did not blow me away as I have heard everybody describe how great HD is. Believe it or not, I am getting a better picture from my outside antenna that is picking up over the air HD stations in my area. Those stations have a great picture, better than my Dish HD channels.

the reason that you are getting better tv from your local signal is 'cause you are receiving a raw signal straight from the provider... it is usually better than the reproduced hd over cable or satellite...
