We have dish network at home and now I am trying to set up a portable dish to take camping, along with one of my receivers from the house. I got a used dish 500, put it on a sturdy tripod and need to know if I can just hook up a single r6 cable to the 119 LNB, run it to my receiver and not use switches(whatever they are)? Using a signal meter, I can pick up what seems to be a strong signal in the direction of 119 but when I hook it up to my receiver, it shows no signal when set on 119 or 110? I tried connecting to both inputs.I checked the dish 500 on our house and basically, skew, elevation and azimuth are the same as the portable setup. I'm scratching my head because I feel like I'm close, but missing something. I have limited understanding of how satellite TV works and have been trying to learn what I can from the Internet but could sure use some help!!! Thanks.

your settings may change at your camp site...

with the same settings as home ... try your camp dish at home & see if you can get it ...then check your zip for settings at the camp site ... rest at camp site & repoint ...very important ... be sure that you tripod is level ...

Thanks for the reply, I did start with my tripod perfectly level and right now I'm just trying to set it up at home using the same settings. When I move the dish through the range where 119 should be, the signal meter (bought off Ebay) picks up a signal. I then tweak the position until I get the strongest signal and then hook it straight up to my 322 receiver. I go to the "setup/installation" screen and I'm not seeing the signal there, not a strong enough signal? Would it tell me if I had a signal even if it wasn't satellite 119?

News Flash- I did get some addiotional info from another post responding to another 1 cable camping setup. "Steakface" says that the LNB's must say "DP", I looked at the one on the house and they do say "DP" but even though the dish I have on the tripod says "dish 500" across it, the LNB's do not have "DP" on it

Ok... first of all what kind of box do you have?
If you use a 301,311,501,510 etc, you only need one cable from the dish to the box.

Now if you have a 322,625,522 etc (dual tuner) you will need 2 lines unless you use a separator and a dpp twin.
You said it didn't have DP on it so it seems you are using a legacy twin, in which you will need two lines without a separator. Or one line if it's a single tuner.

Also, do you own or lease the boxes?

It sounds like you are using the older legacy Dual Dish 500 LNB whene campling. When you lock on to 119, got the "setup" menu, make sure that your settings are not on the DP settings but the legacy settings for the receiver, then to the "test switch" part. Run the test swithch and your receiver at the campground should work. You will have to reset when you get the receiver home.
