just bought and lcd hdtv, the picture is pretty bad. We have a 311 reciever, called dish network and order new hd recievers. but said it would be a couple weeks before someone got here. I read on a site that from the sattelite to the reciever should be rg6 so i looked outside and followed it in and its only rg59. Was just wondering if i changed that if it would make a difference couldnt tell any on a anlog tv. And if i dont change it will the tech do so? thank you.

First thing is to change the cable from the dish to the 311 to RG6.
RG 59 will work, but can't say for how long.
59 cable is not rated for satellite and should be replaced.
The next thing is, you will get a crap picture from a standed box to a HD TV.
The best thing to use is the S-Video cable or the RCA cables that came with the receiver.
The tech should change out the RG59 cable to RG6 when he puts up the HD dish, also make sure the cables and dish are grounded.
This will also save you problems in the future.
Most important..... MAKE SURE THE CALBE FROM THE DISH IS CHANGED.
If you have any problems or questions, IM me.

rg6 will give you a better signal ... but not probably not a better picture ...unless you are saying that your bad pic is due to pixelating... or the pic breaking up ...

if the bad pic is snowy ... or discolored..or fuzzy ... .. it is probably a bad connection from rec to tv or a bad recvr...

is it rf to the tv or is it a/v ... a/v might help ...

thank you for the help, i'll change the cable, its a pretty far run thats why i thought it might be the cable. I dont see where it is grounded anywhere, would it help the picture, or is it for protection. how do you go about doing so if my ground rod isnt close. how far do i need to put the ground rod in if i need one

you would like to gnd the dish & wiring...
gnd wire from dish to gnd block... then from gnd block to gnd ... such as ... metal conduit ... cold water pipe ...

a good gnd will also discharge built up static electricty

dont use a second gnd rod unless you gnd it to the first...
