Upon attempting to view my TV this evening, I was surprised with a screen stating that “the information on my hard drive had become corrupted” and that the entire contents needed to be deleted! This represents programs that I’ve recorded over the course of two years and in some cases can’t be found again.
The only option on the screen is to “Delete”. Before doing this I turned the receiver off by pressing and holding the power button per the instructions provided when I received the unit. When re-booted the same screen message was there. It will not allow me to go to the menu or settings. I contacted the service number for technical support. The first thing the person starts telling me is that the unit must be turned off every night in order for updates to the system to be downloaded. Now, I’ve seen the “downloading updates” screen come on while watching TV in the middle of the night. It will ask you if you want to proceed or not. This is with the system up and running. I questioned the logic of having to shut off a device to allow for it to receive an update when one may have recordings scheduled at some time that will be affected. Her response was that I could change the time for updating to accommodate my recording. With that logic, for those of us that record at different times during the day (and this can change daily!), this isn’t acceptable. Before she would answer any of my technical questions I was placed on hold for her to research the issue. As luck would have it, according to her, I have to allow the system to delete and it will correct this problem.
It would appear that the “update” that occurred early this AM has caused me an issue that will prevent me from recovering all the recordings I currently have on this system. (Kinda sounds like a giant software company we all know, huh?)
Does anyone know of any way to possibly pull the hard drive and maybe download it’s contents to my PC?
