XM Radio offers a wide range of different equipment to serve their customers listening tastes from portable to fixed in car systems including;

OEM fixed vehicle systems -These are factory installed satellite radio receivers available from select vehicle manufacturers. Currently, as of 2008, select vehicles from Acura, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ferrari, GMC, Harley Davidson Motorcycles, Honda, Hummer, Hyundai, Infiniti, Isuzu, Kawasaki Motorcycles, Lexus, Lotus, Nissan, Pontiac, Porsche, Saab, Saturn, Scion, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota have available options of a factory installed XM Radio. Factory installed XM Radio systems have been available on select vehicles from select vehicle manufacturers since 2002. Some vehicles come equipped with "XM Ready" sound systems, which require a factory tuner and antenna installation. Most new vehicles with installed OEM XM Radio systems come with a trial subscription, usually 1 year.

Aftermarket Fixed Vehicle Systems - These are aftermarket "XM Ready" head unit receivers. Fixed vehicle systems come in 3 parts, the "XM Ready" head unit, the XM Radio Tuner and the XM Radio Antenna. Required Equipment varies from manufacturer, with some head units being "XM Ready", meaning they only support XM Radio, while many late model aftermarket models being "satellite radio ready", which indicate they support either XM Radio or Sirius Radio (with addition of appropriate tuner)

Aftermarket Transportable Systems - These are semi-portable receivers that are designed to allow for multi-car use and also allow for vehicle/home use. They typically include the XM Radio receiver, a vehicle or home docking kit and antenna. The vehicle docking kits come with a magnetic antenna to be placed on the top of the vehicle and also a standard 12 volt cigarette lighter adapter. The car kit is designed to interface with the existing car radio using either a wired connection or plug, an audio adapter or also a modulated FM signal. The home kit can also be plugged into an existing stereo system and comes complete with a 110/115 volt adapter.

Portable Systems -These are standalone satellite radio receivers that can be used just about anywhere that has access to the southern sky. They have built in antennas and are about as small as an Ipod. They usually have a built in storage drive, allowing you to record and play back hours of programming and also usually have available vehicle and home docking kits. When not docked, they are powered by rechargeable battery packs

Fixed in home systems - These are high end XM Radio receivers that are designed for in home use. They usually include a high powered external antenna and in home tuner.

Computer Streaming Music - All XM Radio customers can also listen to their programming on their computers with the XM Online service, which is free to existing customers. Non-existing customers can sign up for the online service only for a small monthly fee. Not all channels are available with the online service, however some channels are only available with the online service.
