I have had 5 different Dish people come to my apt. to install the HD set up. They tell me they can't because the ground is frozen. I need a post for I live in an apt. and can not be put on the building. I already have the Dish for years and now want the HD set up. Now I will have to wait till March or later. We can put people on the moon but we can't dig a hole in frozen dirt! I guess the entire Northern states will not be able to have the Dish installed because they live in an area that is cold for many months. So I guess the Dish is put in by the warmer months only! I have an HD TV and would like to watch my in HD but because I live in an area that is cold I can't have it installed!

There are a few reasons for their not wanting to install the dish setup in the northern areas of the country in the winter.
(1) Frozen ground = Thaw and freeze cycle. Dish would not be stable.
(2) Frozen ground = Concrete does not harden well in the winter. Hence, most concrete construction work is done in the spring, summer, and fall. Even if they use antifreeze in the concrete mix, the quality of the concrete is not good.
(3) MOST areas of the country, you need to call all the utilities BEFORE you dig. So, if there is snow on the ground, it is not easy to mark utility paths.
Hope this helps you understand the reasoning for the DISH dispute in this time of the year.
