I have a dual lnb, multiswitch....no HD - so just need to tune in to Sat. 101...lived in this wooded area for 15 years...no problems with reception till this year...no signal...just installed new lnb, and it must be the tree growth....I want to move the dish, but the only good line of sight is about 300 or so feet away....any suggestions as to how I can make this work? What kind of cable....do I need an amplifier? Also...does anyone know where I can purchase one of those meters the DTV techs use to check signals?

i was an installer for directv and dish network for about 10 years, and was told many times that 300 feet was way to much of a run for any sustainable signal, but like you there are alot of people that do not have an open line of sight. running 300 feet of line may decrease your signal some but it is possible to do it without an amplifier.this i have done MANY times with good results.as for a signal meter u can buy a cheaper version at radio shack.

What you are talking about doing, is quite an "IFFY" situation. Whatever you do, if you make the run, buy the best RG-6 cable you can afford. Make sure ALL your connections are water tight. You might get away with that long of a run, provided you do not skimp on the quality of the products you select, and the weather conditions where you are. Water, condensation, and the like are not your friend.
