I have a 5 lnb slimline dish. Which satellite, if any, does it access to provide local channels in standard definition? Can you access that satellite to view local channels in SD using an 18" 2 lnb dish? If so, in a 6x8 multiswitch, which ports do you connect to?

first thing ... where do you live & what locals are you trying to get..

you can check lyngsat.com .. or check with dtv... locals in different areas or on different sats

I didn't state the question very well:

I'm getting local channels fine with my 5 lnb dish. I was curious if you could get the local channels by using an 18" dish instead. I didn't know if the 5 lnb accesses the locals through a different band than an 18" dish can access, or if it uses a different protocol, or is otherwise incompatible in some way. I guess the question is, if I point an 18" 2 lnb dish at the same satellite that my 5 lnb accesses to receive local channels, will the 18" dish allow me to view the local channels?

I checked both sources you mentioned - lyngsat.com and dtv. Both agreed that my locals (Mpls) are on 101. So I hooked up the 18" dish, and connected an SD receiver that gets locals when connected to my 5 lnb dish. No locals - I'm getting a 727 error no matter how I connect it (direct, or through a 4x4 multiswitch). This is an older 18" dish that I've had for about 15 years.

Suggestions? Which transponders on 101 provide local programming?

Never mind. I was thinking of taking the dish in the semi, or putting it on a separate building here (hence the generality of my question). I called DirecTv and asked them about it; they informed me that you are only allowed one independent dish setup per account. So if I do either of the aforementioned I'll have to get a second account.
