I'm trying to use two dishes (24") for a dish network 301. Unfortunately the dishes are actually for Directv. I get the dishes pointed and all is well so far. I get good signal readings for 110 and 119 seperately but when I hook them up to the sw21 and run a switch test it detects switch but doesnt give me 119 odd. Do I actually have to have a dish 500 to make the 301 rcvr work ?

Try reversing the leads into the sw21 switch. I have had a similar problem corrected by this method. If this does not work and you are sure you are getting two strong feeds, one on 119 and the other on 110, the the likely cause is a defective switch.

I have tried two different sw21s, tried a sw44 as well, tried reversing leads too, to no avail. I am concerned that since I am actually using dtv lnbs that that might be a problem. I usually install dtv stuff, so am not real familiar with dish network stuff. I've always been led to believe that an lnb is an lnb....??? just think i might have a rcvr problem. wont allow me to even access the guide till the rcvr takes a download. Just frustrating. Any more help would be appreciated.

i think you need dish pro's to work with the 44 sw...
i guess you tried to swap the lnb ????
we use the dtv lnb with headends all the time ...
you might try a 3 x 4 or 4 x 4 sw

There should not be a problem using Drirect TV lnb's and dishes. I assume that you have determined that the lnb's are both circular lnb's. I cannot remember if Direct uses a linear lnb for any of its satellites and if you have one of these it will not work. Try swapping out the lnb you are using for the 119 sat. Both the sw21 and sw44 should work with the setup you describe. Also check the leads at the end of the cable and make sure that there is not a loose ground wire/shield that could be shorting your system.
I had a similar problem on Dish 129 even transponders. The solution was to switch to the Dish DP lnb's and the DP switches. It is possible this could be your issue.
