Ok, the car thread died and the food thread is making me hungry, there is nothing on TV and here we all are.
How about interesting ways to make a living?
Pesonally, I buy surplus at auctions and sell it online.
eBay(is that a bad word) works very well and I quit my regular job in February. It supports two families and it is
a blast! Yo learn a lot, because yo never know what yo are going to find. It is just like the od TV ads about
government surplus. I coud write a book about the incredibde bargains I have found and the money that they have brought in.
Example, I purchased a box full of badly painted Battletech
figures from the 80's and paid $50.00 for them
after all the smoke had cleared a week later, I had gotten $1342.00 back!
It happens all the time.
computers, printers, police gear, fire gear, electronic test equipment, yo name it. the market is wide open since the internet.
FUN and PROFITABLE.
Hell I don't know, its a thread!

I stay home with the kids all day. I send my wife and her twin sister to work mon-fri 9to 5. I keep the house clean, wash the dishes and keep the upstairs suite where my sister-in-law lives tidy. They make the money. I manage it and keep the bills paid on time and eveyone is happy.
We had a house built to suit our living arangments. Me and the wife downstairs with the kids. The sis-in-law upstairs. My shop and office in back.
After naps and a little laundry I start supper and wait for everybody to get home so I can go to school or out to hunt.Ifs it not fall and the deer have all my attention. I work part time for a local bail bondsman. I don't need the money, which is not great, but it is fun as hell. The only requirements are lots of life insurance to give the girls peace of mind. and the disposition of an a$$hode to deal with scum on a daily basis.
I'm also writing a book about my life. I am not yo r yuppie stay home dad type yo see on Opra. I hunt(people and animals), If it's not a 4x4 I don't drive it, I shoot weekly on the range thats in my back yard, I ride with the local police every weekend(if i'm not hunting), And I'm the the best damn canine person on our local search and recue team.
I'm also head of security at my church.
What do I do for a living? I live the best damn life I can. I take care of the people that I care about and the community I live in.

Yeah, water and snow both, we don't have many hills close by, but there is a neat little ski place about 30 minutes from here, they make their own snow, so it is always groomed ice, but still better than TV. I got into this becuase of the Technological part of it. It is just interesting. I don't watch tv much at all, except:
Speedvision
Discovery
Travel
comedy
tlc
cooking,
Oh, I guess I do watch tv!

Chino Airport, Chino, California. I think it's the Planes of Fame Society. They restore WWII airplanes and give rides. The other is the Confederate Air Force. The Confederate Air Force has operations in several places, however, their home is Harlington, Texas. They do anything for money, and boy do they have some great planes.
http://www.geocities.com/alaccountant/at6.jpg
This plane is a SNJ-5, Navy version of a AT-6, three machine guns and two 300 lb bombs. Fod up wings for aircaraft carrier work, was used as an advanced trainer. Many years ago I gave the kids rides on Sunday and we pretended to attack the Queen Mary in Long Beach. Go to the local airport, if it's a large airport, look for the general aviation facility, buy a copy of Trade A Plane, they are also on line. Yo will find ads that will enable yo r wishes to come true.

I AM a woman, but my name is not florence, nor dollar. I am a FlOOR INSTALLER. (say it fast and yo will get it) I install carpet, and am usually booked at least 3 or more weeks in advance. I am a subcontractor, self employed, and I work alone because I prefer it that way. I am currently finishing a home that takes 600 sq. yds of carpet. Average 4 bedroom, living room, family room, dining room home takes about 200 yards.

Guaddawg,
Yeah, Gluedowns do go FAST, but it seems I end up wearing most of that glue by the end of the day. 300 yds a day IS alot of carpet for a crew to install! I think most 2 man crews around here do 200 yds of stretch in a day. Being by myself, I don't nearly nearly install that much! My quality really has sod my work, even though I do know their are crews that can accomplish both quality, an quantity.
Fortunately, my area seems to be one of the higher paying markets for my type of work. I get $4. a yd to install stretch in, plus all the extras for furniture, an tear out.
Ever move a 1500 lb antique pool table by yo rself? I have!
Jack it up with the tire jack from my van.. protected by a ton of padding.. slip wheels under each side, an VOILA! I really have figured out ways to do nearly everything that a 2 man crew can do.
Knock on wood, my knees and back are fine. I wear knee pads constantly, and have figured out ways to carry carpet that distributes the weight evenly on my back, and doesnt hurt me. Bottom line is that I am stubborn and determined!

Upholstered steps, stringers, Did the local TV fox affliate.
Carpet, vinyl, tile, A lot of cut in patterns and fancy work.
My upholstered news desk is on the TV everynight.
It was interesting while it lasted, but, got tired of all the B.S. from the stores!
Started sedling pad for my jobs, then the Rug and all.
Changed the $3.50 per sq. to about $10.00 counting the profit from the sales!
Do yo have a "ProSource" whodesale carpet source around yo ? It is a nationwide franchise that sells to Designers and Installers at near whodesale, They maintain a Showroom with Retail prices so yo can send yo r Customer there and

Hey this is great isn't it. But, I want to pass out a warning. Don't spill all the beans, and don't talk about wives, husbands, girlfriends, or getting together.
I ran a bulletin board system many years ago (The Tax Board) and we all got close. One day I thought that everyone shoud get together, we di , at a nice restaurant in Laguna Beach. We all had a good night, over a 100. However, the mystery was gone after that, callers slakened off, the regulars left, I finally shut it down. The mystery was gone, the nun that masterbated over the phone was not that attracive, the doctors just wanted free advice etc.
Last year I met a woman through a stock chat board, somehow we started a side email relationship, it happened by accident over Nextel stock. I was in love, so was she, then, I realized that I was communicating with a phantom, so we exchanged pictures. (this is really not like the normal me, however it continued). Finally she wanted to meet, we picked San Diego. I warne her about the mystery being taken away, she still wanted to meet, then run away. We met, the mystery was gone, I hate her car, her dress, her smile. She hated my instant coldness. There just wasn't any magic. Moral to the story, lets keep this going, everyone, lets keep some mystery about us.

Guawddog, Wow sounds like yo were into all aspects of flooring. I di take Armstrongs vinyl installation school, but never really got into any of the fancy stuff with vinyl. Helped on hardwood, and ceramic, but have settled in on carpet. I really dont want the extra paperwork, and taxwork of sedling carpet, even though I know the profits woud be higher. I really just enjoy the daily hands on work that I do. The store I sub for has been great to me, and I think I have found my niche.
Alacountant, I have had great success with meeting people online. About 150 of us Jewel fans were lucky enough, years ago to meet near Woodstock, and have a free private concert from Jewel. Many freindships have continued since then, and even romances and marriages.
Since then, I met someone at a Stevie Nicks concert, who I exchanged emails with, and through her I met another Stevie Nicks fan, and emailed back and forth for awhile. We met in person at a Fleetwood Mac concert, and 3 years later, the romance continues. Internet is a great way to make friends!

Perhaps I am wrong. But, with yo r relationships, they continued with friendships outside the internet chat. No need to chat if yo find a group to hang with. My point is here, I want this to continue. My story wasn't bad, It just was life, I'd do it again, especially since I was counting on a love connection, and left really let down. She had a really ugly od Nisson with bumper stickers all over it. Woud yo make love to someone with a car like that? I'll bet Dawg woud n't.
My friend Marilyn met a guy on the net. They arranged a weekend in Vegas, met and had an aufull time. Guess he froze up, coud n't perform, they went their seperate ways feeling really let down. After months they connected again, through the net, he came to California this time. It was wonderful, they are now very happy, married and living in Kansas. Anyhow Artificial Tears, with redness control, provides the same chemicals that your normal tears contain. When yo put the drops in, the redness dissipates an yo r real tears actually stop. It seems to be a miracle for me, my eyes tear very easy.

I have spares, some friends have them too, I take care of the stuff, but, there's absolutely very little worth watching. Talking to yo guys has really cut into my 596 time, got to stay in practice, right?

I carry a H&K usp 40 and a Sig P239 For a backup. (40Cal also). Church is not a members only place. Yo woud be superised at what comes thr the door. We started o r security program after the Wedgewood incident. It's only minutes from o r church and some of o r youth were there.
None of them where hurt (thank god) but we are now prepared for just about anything at o r place. We are all low key and do not stand out at all. The only people that know who we are, are the pastor and the finace committee that approves o r traing budget. When I'm hunting people I also carry a Mossberg 590, 9 shot or my Beneli entry gun(14 inch barrel 12ga)Since we live in a kinder gentler time I am reduced to using a lot of less than lethal force crap. pre fragmented shot, beanbags, etc...I shoud say that at church I am the only one authorized to carry. The guys use an ASP or mace. The idea is to stay so low key to the point that know one knows we are there.

In Arizona almost anything still goes. Firearms can be carried in plain view, concealed weapons require a short course, leading to a license.( PS only James Bond carries a Walther). Real men carry Barettas 92fs The under the shoulder holster cannot be seen under a sports jacket. But that's in Arizona, I live in So. California, but travel to Arizona every two weeks.. LOL
If yo want to talk power, my 44 mag (Dirty Harry) really lights things up when she's fired, my Colt Sporter (M16) can hit a target miles away. Yo tough guys up north woud be really surprised what yo woud find with nerdy short accountant types down here. Us little guys can feel real paranoid sometimes. LOL
What kind of church do yo have? All the dangerous guys down here only go to church to meet woman, not cause trouble. (Yo can't see the expression on my face, I'm really smiling, because I am razzing yo , hope yo can take it)

Racer, if yo get the Den to go to Vegas, I have a suggestion.
For a recent company promotion I organized a contest where o r best customers went to Derek Daly's Driving School. Its a race track with real race cars and yo get a lesson then take them for a spin. Nobody, even friends with Porches, were ready for the thrill!!!
Group rates are available. Just save me a seat at the blackjack table. 3 H Cards beats a straight flush!!!
As for intersting jobs...hmmm, LifeGuard, Ski Instructor, Diving Instructor, Waiter, Host, Bartender, Sales, Marketing, Accounting, IT Specialist, Trainer, Troubleshooter...oh yeah, I taught Snowboarding too when it first came out!
But my Friend has the best job ever created. He supplies movies/films with the guns. Basically, he stands behind hollywood starlets, puts his hands on their hips and tells them to squeeze slowly. Talk about the life!!!

Had a few jobs myself: backhoe operator at a graveyard and for an electrical company, rode around in a humm-V as an environmental range inspector at an army base, and now wear a white coat and fix people that have been hurt. Hey Qdawg I've got a Yamaha Banshee 350 that jumps pretty well. Go out to the dunes every chance I get when its not too hot. Have yo ever run across a WW11 bazooka? Need one to hang on the wall when the daughter's boyfriends come over. Also add to the collection, have M1 garands and an AR-15, makes them think twice about the mental stability of the pops.

i guess i have it ok. i worked for a local family business that had 20 or so convient stores(beer, wine, cigarettes, ect.) for 13 years. I then bought my own convient store 7 years ago and have been been taking business away from my ex employer since. i also have 13 rental units that keep me busy. if i ever get this all paid for i'll be in the chips. :) i spend most of my summers cruising the river on my 33" houseboat, drinking beer and doing a little personal "farming". i also make my own beer, which is very potent and is how i got part of my nickname.(krazy)

Speedway as yo know fast flat dirt!!Here they
run qauds first to help break in the track. As
many as 25 riders race through the night events,
6 or 7 at a time in heat races with a main at the
end! 8 laps average time of race 3-4 minutes....
