I'm surprised anyone tinkering with computers would even bother to repeat the 'invented the internet' junk. I remember listening to that speech when I was the only one I knew using the Internet and there wasn't much out there... I thought to myself 'finally someone in the government sees the potential of this neat thing' while everyone I knew thought I was stupid to be peering at a 14" window to a very abbreviated world. Gore was very influential in getting the Internet off the ground just as his father was instrumental in turning Eisenhauer's dream of a national expressway system into our current Interstate system. Neither one actually built what they helped start and both things no doubt would have happened without them, but....both men saw the potential of something and hurried them along while most people still thought it was a crazy idea...
