This isn't really HDTV related, but I figure that this is the place the video buffs would hang out. I'm looking for a good video capture card to act as digital VCR. The software to do all of this is out there, no big deal but I don't know what card to use to get full speed recording with sync'ed audio. I have an ATI All-in-wonder128 and I have to say its damn horrible at capturing. The audio gets so far out of whack that its rather useless for anything over 5 minute captures. With the capabilities to use an IR remote to control the recording on the PC for cheap, my goal is to use the IR out from my RCA IRD to start the recording process, so when I hit 'Record Program' on the guide screen it'll just spit out the IR at the right time just like it does to my vcr, but to the PC and start recording. I really only need S-VHS input, don't have the capability to display anything over standard TV quality anyway, nor an IRD to feed anything better than S-VHS input. Any suggestions in the sub 500$ range? I don't give two hoots about premiere, or editing or anything, just good solid realtime capture hopefully with at least dolby prologic or even better would be digital 5.1 through an optical connector, in MPEG-1 or 2 format hopefully, but even AVI would do if it were solid enough capture. I currently use a PC attached to the TV via S-VHS to playback downloaded video's etc and DVD's, so the PC is already there and even can capture, but the results just suck. Any input would be appreciated, I'm sure someone out there is doing this already. Seems so much better than Tivo to me, I don't need pause and fast forward of live TV though theres even software for the PC to do it. Thanks
