Summary:
1. Can one successfully hook up an svga computer monitor to the vga jack on a dtc100?
2. can one successfully hook up a dtc100 via video out and audio to a video card eg an ati radian 'hdtv ready' card?

Several years ago i vowed not to buy a new tv until i could use my computer monitor for it. A 19" .22 dot pitch monitor is now $350US. I can play really nice looking DVD disks on it at 16/9 aspect ratio. I am too cheap to buy a big hdtv with .82 dot pitch for 8 to 10 times as much when i am on my computer more than the tv anyway.
Has anyone just directly hooked up an svga monitor to the DTC100? I downloaded the owners manual, and was not enlightened, other than there seem to be some options (eg 4/3 vrs 16/9).

More for the future, can I use an ati radion or other
card to display this.? I have seen some hauppange stuff re capture on some unreleased card capture is 8 gigs / hour, but can you also just watch it? Can you use a 'retail card' like the ati radion (which also does everything else i want). Does the dtc100 just hook up via the rca jacks? I assume the other outputs would not be supported by most video cards (eg rgb),

anyway, meanwhile i am watching tv on my old 19 inch tv with 13 channel vhf dial..ie if hdtv becomes as cheap as it, i guess i'd rather watch it there rather than on my computer monitor, but dvd's i watch on my monitor.
Besides, we are testing here anyway so i guess psychological testing is also ok eh?

(ps does anyone have a 752ed dct100 unit for cheap in canada?)

Yes this does work

2. can one successfully hook up a dtc100 via video out and audio to a video card eg an ati radian 'hdtv ready' card?

Depends on your video card. I don't know anything about this card, but others will only take standard NTSC (Analog) video in from the video in.... The HDTV ready part refers to the tuner. It will pick up and translate an MPEG transport stream and display it ou your monitor or and external monitor/tv.

Yes you may hook up a VGA monitor to the HD VGA output. However, the eyes and the brain will not be able to tell the difference between a 1080i HDTV picture and that of a 480i or p SDTV picture until the screen size is a minimum of 32 inches. That is why the smallest direct view HDTV monitors are at least 34 inches.

The video (S or RCA) out is standard analog NTSC video. It can be pluged into any monitor built for such purpose, or even a VCR. Same with the audio.
