I am reading that your C to ground transistor mod has
caused the loss of the Dolby Optical Audio output.
I would like to know if this is reversable? I am aware that
certain menu functions need be selected before the C-Gnd
mod occurs as the write of those menu functions will not be
permissable once the transistor C location to Gnd is done.
So my question is simple. Can one introduce a DPDT switch
between the (C pad and Gnd) or (Transistor C pin and C-pad)
so that one can switch to the former to block updates and
switch to the later to enable Eprom menu changes with Sat
feed disconnected? Is the loss of audio a consequence of
the GND to C pad or is it something that we do not have a
current fix for?

I don't know what to say for sure My optical output still works just fine after the mod.

It could be that in the Audio Setup the Optical output option is not selected. I leave mine on auto.

The mod really only affects the VPP of the flash chip
It could be possible that the Audio settings are stored in one of the flash chips and if it was not enabled before the mod it wont update.

I really don't think this is the case I think the settings are stored in the 8 pin EEprom, If one was to do the Pin 7 Mod on that chip that could have an effect?

And to answer your real question you could put a DPDT switch
in the circuit to allow writes

You would need to open the GND connection and Make the C connection in one switch position and Make the GND connection and Open the C connection in the other Position

This would require 2 poles on the switch IE the DPDT

Just Like you are saying in your post I don't see any reason this would not work

I did a little test:

In the Audio setup menu I can select AUTO, DIGITAL or PCM and I have audio output If I Select OFF I lose sound

I only use the optical audio out no RCA audio connected at all.

This is all done with the Flash mod installed

I believe there is something else causing the audio problem
not the modification.
