Hi,
I have recently purchased an HDTV and want to buy an HDTV Receiver. With all of the update madness occurring with the RCAs I don't want an RCA.
Can anyone recommend a good brand and model (NOTE: I have a Mitusbishi HDTV) to buy that will be relatively easy to use.
Thanks.

If you find another brand, that will work with an H card, let me know..............

There are several other HDTV Receiver brands - are all of them affected by the hardware update that makes H Cards useless?

Robocop,
As far I know, (which is not much) there is no other brand or model of HD DSS currently in the market for sale, unless you want to do Dishnetwork. Several model (toshiba, sony, mits and hughes) are schedule to be release for sale soon. All of this model are made by Hughes for the other manufactures. Odviously if they are not for sale, nobody has been able to see if they work with the "H" card or not. Panasonic also has model TU-HDS20 (this is a Panasonic product and not a Hughes product) is scheduled to be release for sale this month. Unknown if it would work with an "H" card.

Robocop,
They have just released an HDTV receiver for the Mitsubishi HDTV's. It is made by Mitsubishi and cost around $899. Many have tried the RCA brand and it doesn't work well with the Mitsubishi T.v. One other thing, the H-card doesn't work with the Mitsubishi HDTV receiver...
Good luck.

Other HD IRD's are dure to be released soon. I think a Sony may have been released this month, but not sure.
The RCA DTC 100 was discontinued and I have not found out if they intend on replacing with another unit or not.

Robocop,
I just bought two RCA-100 on December 13th at a local Best Buy. Both unit had software version 3.72 which allow use of the "h" card, also this unit (with software version 3.72) are quasi "plus" unit. Meaning that they get access to the second satellite 119 which contains locals for San Diego and other cities, plus the High Definitions channels (199 pay-per-view from 9pm to 6am pacific time) and HBOHD 509. Furthermore, if this unit also received ALL the locals in the 900 area. This what makes a non-plus unit but also a plus because it can received satellite 119. Of course you have to prevent the unit from receiving update 4.02 which took away the 900 locals and only gave you the locals in your zip code. Be aware that a scrip in this unit to include a P3M makes the locals go in an out with this software version 4.02. Anothe update that they are currently adding to this RCA unit is version 4.32. This version gives you the 752 nag. Making your "H" card invalid. You will have to make the necessary modifications to the unit to prevent the software update if you find a unit on the shelfs with version 3.72, this is done with the pin 15 modification.
Also, I have a first generation Mits HD TV with 5 RGBHV BNC connectorss for high definition. All you need to make the RCA DTC-100 work with this unit if you subscribed with a HU card or make the necessary modification to continue accepting the "H" is get a VGA breakout cable to 5 BNC connectors and activate the HD inputs in your tv. By the way the picture is awesome with this setup.

I have a mitsubishi ws-65807 and it works perfect with the DTC-100 going through the RCA VGA to Component converter box...
My dad has a mitsubishi ws-55805 and it also works great with the dtc-100 and the converter box...

From what I have heard from my distrubtor the Panasonic will work the H card. They have just received their demo unit, and said his old H card worked fine. :-) We have one order for the store, as soon as we get it I will check it out and report back.

Cabra: is there any way of telling without powering up rxer to tell what software update is installed on rxer, and if not what was the manufactured date of your rxer ?
thanks in advance

You don't need any card in it to check the firmware version. Just plug in the receiver, connected to your tv of course, turn it on and hit menu 7 7. It will tell the version.
