If this needs to be moved to the BS Forum, my apologies.

I have been frustrated with paypal not making payments when I have tried to use them. I have gotten the confirmation window that money has been sent and waited for my goods to arrive. When the goods don't arrive, I have contacted the vendors, and NONE of them have received any funds. I checked back to my paypal Transaction History and not one of the transactions appears. Apparently the only solution is to re-enter the payment and try again.

After this happening 3 times, I go so frustrated I cancelled my account and invited them to do something anatomically impossible with their system.

Now, I regret having done so because paypal is apparently the biggest game in town for transmitting/receiving funds on the internet. As a help to other members who might be new to their system, here are a couple of things I have learned the hard way.

(1) Don't trust the confirmation window! Either refresh the browser window or log out and log back on, then check your Transaction History. If your payment doesn't show up, it hasn't been made - regardless of the fact that you received a confirmation window.
(2) If your payment is made, you will also receive a confirmation email. No email from paypal, no payment has been made.

When I closed my account, there was a warning saying that if I closed the account I would never be allowed to open another one. As bad as the system is, I wish now I had it back. Anyone know of a way around this? I have two mailing addresses and can set up a billing address on one of my credit cards different than the one I used. How does paypal track who has an account and who doesn't? By name, by billing address, by credit card number?

I still think the system stinks, but having learned how to check on payments supposedly made, I can tolerate it. I'm also aware that their customer support in case of disagreement with the vendor is pretty shaky too, but like I said above, most everyone wants funds sent via paypal. Anyone have any ideas on how to open another account?

Anyone else have any trouble with paypal, or am I the only one and need to take the IQ test again?

Tweater:

Since your thread got moved to the BS forum, guess who is here to see it. Yep, it's me, Alaccountant.

I cannot figure out why you are having so much trouble with Paypal. My stories are quite the opposite. I have bought several high ticket items using Paypal, the payment was made almost instantly. The problem may lie with the credit card that you are using, not Paypal. Paypal must have to get some kind of verification from the bank or credit card company before the transaction is made "final".

My paypal payments come out of a checking account in Washington Mutual, they gave me a glorified credit card, which carries no credit, it just provides a way to access my own money. The card works similar to an ATM card, only, it carries the VISA name and can be used same as a credit card. When I buy something, I contact the seller immediately and verify receipt of funds through Paypal. I don't wait for Paypal and actually don't read any email from them. I don't mean this to be a lecture, just, I don't trust any internet merchant, or Paypal. So, I go into action immediately after the sale is made. This quick action, including verification of the seller, has saved me hundreds in losses to bogus dealers and also got my stuff delivered when I wanted it.

Sorry, wish I could share you horror stories. If it will make you feel better, I will call them and vent some frustration on your behalf, perhaps a recording of the tweety tune, emailed to them, would help.

I DO NOT uase Paypal anylonger. I got screwed big-time by them. This was maybe a month after they started. I used them for my business, and had to get my attorney to get my sizable amount of money back from them. Somehow they lost it, and said they did not have a record of it.
When my attorney got involved, they done some checking and found the funds...... (Hmmmm!!!!)

So now, I just use wire transfers. I do not even need to go to my financial institution, just fax the paperwork to them and they transfer the same day.

It is a little more hastle, but, the upside is, you have an account name, and number the transfer went to, and not a P.O.Box.

Thanks for the input Muggles. Sorry about using the wrong forum initially - I thought it might get moved here.

Anyway, glad to hear that I wasn't the only one to have troubles with them. I'll look into the wire transfers set up.
