Hey Guys!!
I am on vacation in LA and having a wonderful time so far, but I was wondering if any of you familiar with the area could give me a few pointers. I want to see and do some cool stuff. I don't want the usual tourist stuff and I am not too hot on the Club scene. So, any suggestions as to what to see??? Thanks, I am going to bed, and when I get up I expect to see a bunch of suggestions!!! Don't let me down!!!

Thanks folks, and have a Happy New Year!!!!

(miss ya Starr!!!)

Since you're in Los Skanless, I suggest go visit the South Central side and maybe the Watts side as well:D Oh, and check out the Hollywood walk of fame, you know Hollywood Blvd...where you'll see movie star's name on the concrete. And if you happen to see Bruce Lee's name, can you take a snap shot of it.

Just watch out..... At night, there are a BUNCH of strange creatures that walk the Hoolywood and Vine area.
And I mean STRANGE!!!!!! Anything you could possibly want to see, you can find there at night.

Petersen Auto Museum at Wilshire Blvd. and Fairfax, in LA is worth seeing. Universal Studios in Hollywood, is also pretty much fun. Hope this helps you and have a great vacation.

Try Ed Debevek's restaraunt in Beverly Hills, have the meat loaf, it ain't bad.

The Amazing collection of strange people that come to eat there, coupled with the inevitable abuse handed out by the wait staff will certainly live long as a valued and cherished memory of the trip.

If you don't mind a little driving, you can be in the desert in a short time, on of my favorite places on earth (used to live out there).....If you are the outdoor type, you MUST visit Joshua Tree..........

Also if you get to the low desert (Cochella Vally), see if you can't see one of the caynons, Indian caynon is open to the public, but if you ask around discretly, someone will tell you how to sneak into Tahquitz, just don't get caught in there...It's worth the risk though, three waterfalls, depending on how good of a climber you are..........Most of the vally is pretty touristly, but if you look, there is alot of really cool stuff to do....................

I know you asked about LA, I tended to avoid it, instead spending my time in San Deigo(If you have the time, you can spend days in Balboa Park) and the desert..........Sorry couldn't be more help on LA..Have Fun :)

If you have the time and want to really relax then take a 1 hour boat ride over to Catalina. Catalina has two small towns, Avalon and Isthmus. Avalon has some life to it but the Isthmus is very quiet and relaxing. For more info visit http://www.catalina.com

If you are in Long Beach, go to the new Aquarium downtown. Universal Studios is fun and will take a good day. For a real weird day drive down to TJ. It is about a 2 1/2 hour drive and you can buy some really weird stuff down there. I have yet to ever find the donkey show!!! :)

PM me if you want any other ideas!!!

I guess you knew about "South Central", it was a joke:) So, just stay away from South Central, Watts, East Los Skanless, Compton, East Long Beach and don't go to 18th st. & Crenshaw Blvd.

BTW....I used to live in East Long Beach!!
[red]Happy New Year and becareful over there!![/color]http://www.animfactory.com/animations/holiday_events/new_years/2001_new_year_md_wht.gif

Quaddawg, We really didn't need to hear about your 75 degrees, it's 75 degrees here also,(inside my house), 0 outside, with about 8 inches of snow on the ground. Have a great vacation, and enjoy that warm weather.

If your looking for a quick bite, and don't mind fast food then you need to go to In-N-Out burgers. All they do is hamburgers. Everything is fresh, their fries can't be beat and very reasonably priced. There located all over the place.

I think the Nixon Library is Open to the Public and its in Whittier. I hear the digitally remastered Watergate Tapes are a hoot. :D

The Nixon library is located in Yorba Linda. Quad, if you're thinking about going there PM me, will tell you how to get there.

Quaddawg,
Hopefully it's not too late to get in a suggestion. If you have never been to Venice Beach, IT'S WORTH ANY AMOUNT OF DRIVE TIME! (about an hour out of L.A.). I have been taking friends who visit me from the east coast there for 8 years. Venice Beach makes N. Hollywood at night seem TAME:) Every freak you could imagine will welcome you to Venice Beach. In-and-Out is like a cult favorite. Double-Double Animal Style is my favorite. Now I'm hungry, fortunately there's one a block away:) Enjoy your trip and don't let the "Crazys" talk you into moving west and setting up a Used clothes/body shop/coffe house/tatoo parlor that specializes in local art (there's too much competition:)). Try Venice Beach just south of Santa Monica. Flea market, street performers, weirdos.
To check out some babes go to Manhattan Beach Pier and take a walk on the boardwalk (NOT on the pier)North walk is better (or rent some roller blades and chase aa babe skating in her bikini. See a babe you want?? Fall into her boobs..after all you are on skates and can't be expected to maintain control!!
For a beer go to Redondo Pier. At the entrance to the pier head North and onto the LOWER level(by the small inner harbor). Look for NAJAS. They have over 777 different bottled beers and over a HUNDRED on tap. Sit outside and watch the other tourists walk by!!

Avoid Banning county(Palm Springs area). California Highway Patrol pulled me over there for (and I quote) "it looked like you were doing 75"...........

You guys are really funny. Poor Quad, if he followed the tour advice from (Joshua Tree) Yucky Valley to Pismo with Venice Beach and Mount Baldy in between he'd be home sick for Texas and he'd also loose about 100 pounds. LOL C'mon guys, Quad is 40 and KOOL, can you picture him on one of those LA bus tours going to the desert? Besides, they'd make him pay for two seats. If he went to the Nixon Library he'd be within 2 miles of my house and very close to Muggles. That's scary, I'd recognize him in an instant

It's probably too late now, but, the best advice would be just hang out and get to know the area like someone that lives here. Really pees me off, with some advance notice, I could have invited him over.

If anyone else comes west, not you Skimtbaldy and you lovtowin, you already live here, but, anyone from the east, how about some advance notice and a get together. I'd really like to see what the funny pirates really look like.
Me, you got my picture right here, I'll put a bag over my head if we go out to eat.

Quad, if your still in CA look for me.

There is no such thing as Banning county (it's a city in Riverside county), and yes Plam Springs is in Riverside county, but Banning is in the Inland Empire, not the desert.:), but nonetheless, the police in the Inland Empire arn't the nicest group to deal with when it comes to speeding.....Sneaky bunch too....

And Al, you saw the picture of Quad, can't you see him hiking in one of the canyons in the desert, real cool stuff in there, and NO, by all means I agree, avoid most of the area like the plauge, I lived there and I tried to avoid alot of it, but there is some great stuff to see out there.....But your right, all of us would have him all over the southland.....Can we all argree he must at least enjoy a burger at In-N Out????:D

Oh s*&t, I was trying to be so cool and guess where you lived. Am I wrong again? I hate to be wrong. I was wrong about Muggles, now, I'm wrong about Mt. Baldy. OK this is a test, just one question.

When you go to ski at your Mt Baldy, do you usually travel through Upland, CA. Or the back side, by way of Rt. 15?

Muggles,
Nothin wrong with being a "hick" It's great!!! I too lived in Orange County, Santa Ana, once upon a time... And no offence to the CA folk, but..... never again!!! To many people, concrete and palm trees!!! I love the wide open spaces!!! :D Don't get me wrong it's a nice place to visit I just don't want to live there...;)

Poor Al, your having trouble getting everybody pegged :D

Well, I couldn't trick skimtbaldy into admitting CA, got Quad wrong too. I knew Coop lived in the boonies. (horse pic gave her away) Cerberus, I think Florida. (the state full of hanging chads) Oops, wrong, North Carolina. Muggles, I'm sure he still lives close. (comparatively speaking) Starr, talked about not using stucco on her houses, so, I haven't a clue. (Chicago perhaps) Cellular lives where it is very very cold, but, I won't tell where.

However, as a reasult of this quest to find out where Starr lives, I have been using the opportunity to ask every good looking blonde that I meet if her name is Starr. Didn't get lucky yet, but, the brown haired waitress at the Italian restaurant, in old downtown Orange, kissed me on the lips yesterday (that's close, right?)

Ok, you hicks and boonie lovers got me in the mood, off to Bullhead City tonight. (Laughlin Nevada area) Time to ride the hovercraft down the Colorado and mingle with some real hicks. (Bullhead bumkins, I call em, but, good folks at heart) In and out bergers en route at Barstow (thinking of you luvtowin, with every bite and the obvious drips of stuff on my lap).

If Dave is quiet this weekend, and you guys in the boonies get bored, you can alway ease the boredom by using the 2gapa technique of driving a steak through your right arm and then chaining the end around some other part of your body.

Anyhow, please keep track of your weekend, reports are due on Monday.

Al;
I live halfway between Wheeling, WV., and Parkersburg, WV. On the Ohio side of the river. I live in Wayne National Forest. My property is bordered on 3 sides by Uncle Sam. And as I stated before, I used to live in Placentia, Ca. On San Clemente Ln. Got tired of the 8' concrete wall fenses, and all the b.s. neighbors. Too much closeness of neighbors for me. Here, my closest neighbor is a 1/4 mile away.

I can't believe Muggles lives less than 30 minutes away from here. I am on the other side of the river in Wild Wonderful West (By GOD!) Virginia. This is REAL hick country.

Wow! Well...I am back now, just drove up and came in, I was still on line after 8 days, forgot to turn my computer off (gotta love that dsl!!) I hadn't checked the suggestions after my second post, I get home and get online and there are three pages! I had a great time! Thanks for all the suggestions! I did alot, but my favorite was a little trip up the PCH. Up to Ventura county, beautiful. On the way back down I turned up Mullhollond Hwy to Westlake dr. This is a great twisty little road, my girlfriend got a little carsick! I only had a Saturn sl2 to drive, but it handles pretty well and I had it a little sideways a few times! I was just longing for a GSXR or CBR or something! I must say the break and the warm temps were nice, but it sure is good to get back to my DSL and my 20" !!! I spent a week trying to get my email off a 56.6 and a 14" boo hisss!
Well anyway, thanks Pirates! You came through as always!
Talk to all of you soon.

Starr: My email server is down right now, I read your Mom post, give me an email when you get the chance.
