I was tring to set up a dish at a friends house. But there's trees all around. Just wondering if I can receive
a signal thought these trees? The dish is on top of the
house and 40ft trees are in the way. We are going to cut
some down but didn't want to cut them all.

Trees eat the satellite signal...pretty much all of it.

Get a protractor & ruler out, get the elevation setting, add 3 to it. That's the angle you have to clear to get reception.

If you're clearing the trees now, take a stab at how fast the trees are going to grow....then do what ya gotta do.

Aha! I've been looking for this information! Smack, are you saying that the sat's actual location is 3 degrees above the recommended dish angle? And that if I add 3 deg, and the line of sight is clear, I'm OK? Sorry to ask, just need it clarified a bit to make sure I'm doing this correctly. Is this the same for Dish and Dave?

You got it. The DTV dish is an offset dish, the signal actually approaches the dish from about three degrees higher than the "elevation" setting.

I don't know about Dish "fer sher," I believe they're similar. Maybe someone else can give you some solid information.

I'm first going to try a new LNB I don't know if the old one ever worked. Picked it up in a yard sale. The last thing
I wanted to do is cut....
