As far as I know, ubest has been out of business for many years. I've seen that box but it's probably not worth much. If he's interested in Chinese programming, somebody with enough smarts should try to crack into the feed from T5 that contains Taiwanese channels. It was free once until they started to block it with a Viaccess security system. Or they could try to crack into the TVB feed which carries programming from Hong Kong. If anybody knows how, I'd love to know. I've got dishes aimed at those suckers with no way to decode the programming. Hope that helps.

Hi, My mom pays to watch TVB. They've change there ird to use a smartcard. I don't know much about programming them, but if someone will tell me how I will try. I only have a nextgen programmer if that's enough. by the way, I'm having hard time trying to get the new signal from 119w, so I don't have tv right now....

That's very interesting. I didn't know that their transmission was still active. What sat is it aimed at? BTW, $50 per month is a little steep for 8 channels. But I understand there is a market out there for it. You can still get a couple of FTA Taiwanese channels on T5. It's MSTV and NATV. There used to be three other ones until they went the Viaccess route. I'm trying to find some connects thru a friend of mine in Europe that understands more about this system. I hear it's wide open out there. I'll let you know if anything pans out.

I don't exactly know where it's pointing at.thanks for the reply though.By the way, My friend asked the dealer about programming for the cards and the dealer said that he would like to get is hands on one.Actually told my friend to contact him if he finds one,Then the guy could work on his own, rather then a company. This leads me to believe that a u-best programmer might be hard to come by. considering the dealers can't find one.Anyways,I'm pretty new to satelites.Only familiar with dtv.But I was wondering what kind of dish would be neccesary to pick up t5? also what kind of ird.Would it be c-band? Also,I'll try and find the cordinates of the sat.
thanks

Well, for starters I recommend a 30" dish coupled with a Kuband lnb. I happen to use a floor standing model that I leave in my backyard. You will need to have a sat finder because it's tricky to catch the signal from T5. The sat's farther up in orbit and therefore the signal's a little weaker. I think T5 is at 97 degrees. Check lyngsat to be sure. I haven't messed around with this stuff in a while. As far as the ird, you would need any DVB compliant type. If you plan to buy one, I would recommend that you get one that has an access slot for future use. That's where I screwed up. I've got an FTA DVB receiver model DMT-1000. Now even if I find a way to get around scrambling methods, I'd have to get another ird that accepts CAMs. I've got access to both Irdeto and Viaccess CAMs and I'll try to see what I could find out about testing them. My main target now is the new JEDI sytem that TVB uses to broadcast their feeds. Don't know much about them yet.
