I just received my gas bill for January, WOW! Does anybody know how to test gas meters? I was wondering if a very strong magnet stuck on the meter would slow the gears down.

What we used to do , is get another meter off of a vacant house or where ever ( use your imagination). Then the day after the meter man reads the meter, take your meter off and put the other one on. Let it run that way for a couple of weeks, then switch back to your original meter. It's an old trick we use to do when I lived in a commune years ago. Theres a trick to getting that little wire lock off without cutting it off. But I think I'll keep that little trick to myself. sorry. GL

cerberus-I been talking about getting a whole house wood burning stove for years. I think it would have paid for it’s self just in one or two years at these rates.

Captain_Fantastic are you sure you don’t want to PM me and help out a drowning shipmate?

All you people that want wood burning stoves,,,
1. Have you ever cut and split your own wood?
2. Have you ever dropped a piece of wood on your toe?
3. Have you ever gotten stung by a scorpion that was
under the bark of the wood?
4. Have you ever had to go out to the wood pile during
a bad storm?
5. Have you ever run out of wood, during a storm and
tried to find any to buy?
Wood burning stoves are great for atmosphere, additional
heat during a cold snap,tosting marshmellows,popping
popcorn, ect. They suck for heating the whole house.
Take it from someone that has done it! Work some overtime
and wear extra clothes in the house. I was burning 3
to 4 cords every year. Stoves and fireplaces just ain't
worth it!

Growing up that was my job every day after school.I made
countless trips with that wheel barrel. We were lucky if
we only burned a rank (cord) a week. Spliting all that
oak did teach me a few skills. That bell you hit with
the sledge hammer at the carnival, piece of cake everytime.
We call them "the good old days". I'll stick with my heatpump in these terrible times. I would like to split a few for old times sake. As far as wood heat it was great
until you had to crawl out of that warm bed and throw another log in.

With all of the problems you had burning with wood I was wondering if you still have all of your fingers and legs? LOL Sounds like you’re a walking accident waiting to happen.
I could work overtime and give it to dave too, but OT is not my cup of tea. I rather cut trees down and test.

florida is good to me , no worries about chopping wood unless it is oak to use on my bb-q.
