This only works with the EXTERNAL SURFboards. The Internal ones do not work this way. But, if you want to use the SURFboard on multiple computers over a LAN, you can always download Wingate. I can't post the URL, but get a hint.. WINGATE is a great piece of work that will do the job for internal and external SURFboards.. and it works with DSL, and other high speed connections.

If it is to exploit the features of the Cable Modem, this is good. If your objective is to hook multiple machines off one IP address from the cable company, then WINGATE is a way to go.
If you are using Windows 2000 or Windows 98 Second Edition on at least one machine, then there is also ICS & NAT solutions available.
the 192.168 address range is part of the PRIVATE internet address ranges. No one from the outside should be able to hack into any of the computers, because the routers should not pass through 192.168 class C network. The one computer connected to the External IP address is vunerable, unless the cable modem is assuming that address and ALL computers on the network are Private. The all the computers are protected to the level that the router/cable modem acts as a firewall/proxy.
You can find many modems that are either cable or DSL that provide this spawning of a private network so that you can hang a lot of stuff off ONE IP address.

Also,
For those who don't want to get multiple IP addresses from your cable company ([yellow]and yes they do like to charge extra for them[/color]) then you can always install Windows 98 SE...Second Edition.
Windows 98 SE has built in multiple IP routing capabilities. Hook up the Win 98 SE computer to the simple LAN hub, and the other computers to the lan hub, then also hook up the win98 SE comp to the cablemodem...this will require two ethernet cards in the main computer.
Win 98 SE will assiogn and manage all IP's in and out of the main computer and utilize the main IP (for the cablemodem) to process all requests for access to the internet.
Great info on how to do this cheap and easy can be found here:
